Saw this on beakman's world today! I used to LOVE that show so I figured I'd watch it...and learned somethin! You need to measure each tire's footprint in sq/inches and take a reading of the each tire's pressure. Then you multiply the footprint X the pressure, then add up all 4 numbers. When they did it they got within 200lbs....so it's a rough estimate but if you're tryin to lose weight from the car it's an easy at home measurement you can do yourself! To measure the footprint, use 2 pieces of paper, and slide them under the tire, one at the front, one at the back, measure the distance in between. Then move the paper to the inside and outside of the tire, and measure the distance in between there, then multiply those two numbers together for your surface area. Then multiply that surface area X that tire's pressure. Write that number down, and do the same for all 4 tire's, adding them up at the end for your vehicle's weight!
the scrap trac weighed 2050lbs with no body kit, doors motor tranny or interior. Lol plus i filled the gas tank with water to get more $$$ out of it
well whatever I thought it was pretty interesting....multiplying the footprint of your tire's by their psi equals how much weight the tire is holding....
pounds over inches multiplied by inches...simple yet effective. though so are the weigh scales here, they're free to use too.
