Of course he might not notice 20 lbs off the car, but do that in 5 different places and there goes 100 lbs, which is definitely noticeable.

Maybe I should do a write up on weight reduction. The thing to keep in mind is that every ounce counts. And yes I said ounce. Currently in the processes of loosing 200 lbs off my already gutted race car. Need to get down to my minimum weight - 2295 lbs.

Whats the rules with replacing glass with plexi glass? My next idea is to replace sunroof with plexi and remove all the guts (more of a anti rust thing). buying a second hatch at the scrap yard and replacing the glass with plexi. and replacing the rear windows with plexi. not reduction, but move the battery to the boot. I hear you can gut the doors but dont know how much is in there. ive always wanted to attempt to make my own carbon hood.

    additional ideas?

theres almost always more things you can take out... its more how stupid do you want to get with losing weight and such. if its just for rust though then theres not a whole lot more then whats already been brought up.

I know the doors have some HUGE bracing in them....about a high and all the way down the door...rip that off and put in a steel bar instead and that'll prolly reduce some weight...

Well I can say a bit about the doors. They have the outer skin. Then a reinforcing courregated steel "beam" that is about 6-8 inches tall and runs the entire length of the door at about middle height. Then there is the inner skin that the interior trim panel is attached to. The beam is resonably strong. If I had some pics of my race car after this season you could see that the door area below it is heavily dented while the area with the beam behind it stays in place. And this door saw a lot of abuse as metal is starting to tear off near the hinges. The beam seems to be rather light weight in construction so I wouldn't recommend removing it as it would be a large sacrifice in safety.

As far as plexi goes check with the dmv or what ever you have as I know this varries. Here we have a nice list of common car mods, underglow, exhaust and such, and what rules apply to there. You might have something similar.
