Hey guys I'm wondering what options I have in regards to a helical LSD for my gen 1 3sge. What will fit ? What other models are interchangeable as all I can find are clutch type lsd's
Very hard to find parts for these, I think you'll find that TRD, Cusco etc have all been discontinued Another issue with these diffs is the speedo ring gear doesnt fit or comes loose. Also the stock shafts don't always fit BE CAREFUL
Even though no one else on here seems to like them, I've run Phantom-Grip limited slips for years, in fact on every one of my racecars where allowed by class rules. It's a very simple system and easy to install and works with all forms of tranny fluid including synthetics. I do recommend their heavy-duty spring kit........ http://www.phantomgrip.com/1986-1993-Toyota-Celica-GT-S-Limited-Slip-LSD-p/pgty2561.htm racerb
Very interesting - and cheap Got any info on how it works or diagrams, site is pretty vague? Had I seen this earlier I wouldn't be spending billions on converting a MR2T box to fwd
Check the installation info on the web-site, it shows a more detailed example of how it fits and works within the transaxle. The one in my GTS 5-speed was installed at the same time I was replacing syncros in my tranny. racerb
Not when the diff is shattered and the syncros are history? Best done when overhauling your box - it ain't cheap, even when you do it yourself. My conversion is on hold atm, everything is ready but I aquired a RC box with 3.9 diff & short gears so will be mixing them to make one with the longest gearing possible. 1,2,3 is too short in the 4.1 box for my liking. I read somewhere that Toyota applied "friction material??" to the gear cones so might have a go at sandblasting the cones to get some extra syncro friction.
I think you'll have to abandon that search, there just aren't that many a/m parts for the gen4 Search under Torsen or Helical diff, I don't see any for the gen4/5/6 which is the same as Corolla, I think my next car is a MR2T, there are tons of parts for those
You're in luck, let's hope it's not discontinued. All "S" boxes use the same diff and internals but be careful about shafts to fit
Yes, that will fit, looks nice but I'm too scared to look for a price. The problem is that many of these were designed for Corollas and our shafts are different on one side (see the Quaife tech drawing states Corolla AE?) so it's important to find out if the shafts fit. I know there was this problem with the TRD and Kaaz lsd's
So say I order it What do I do regarding shafts if it's the Same story ? Corolla shaft cv one side and celica on the other ? What side is it also ?
also i emailed qaiufe regarding how many teeth they're splines have, how many do the st162 3sge gearboxes have ?
This is why I stuck with the Phantom-Grip LSD, used my stock tranny and half shafts. The tranny in my car is actually a JDM unit, but other than slight gearing changes is identical to the USDM 5-speed in our 4th gen cars. racerb
Here are the 162 shaft spline counts; http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/moreinfo.php?pk=2976270&cc=1273946 Here is the 161 shaft spline count, do note the biggest difference is shaft mounting style; http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/moreinfo.php?pk=2977791&cc=1389438 racerb
mr2 no turbo box is 23 teeth mr2 turbo is 24 teeth is an lsd really worth it when im having no issue with wheel spin on corners ?
