Hey everyone, Im soon aquiring the 3sgte motor Im puting in my 162 coupe.

    - Just wondering if anyone might know any companies that mate the driveshafts that I will need to use with the MR2 Tranny? I've read that you can just mate the Alltrac outer CV joints with the 162's inner joints and drive shaft... anyone heard of this?

    - Also, has anyone done the gear selector swap from a regular 3sge gearbox to the MR2 trans (basically turned it around)? If so, what am I in for, I've searched near and far for some sort of explanation for how to cleanly do the swap with no luck.

    - One more thing! how fast would a strong 3sgte motor with low K's tear apart a 3sge tranny with a new clutch and 250000 K? Im guessing pretty quickly (I don't know much about the reputation of these trannies).

-I may have some more questions in the future, Im just trying to get all my worries ticked off the list before I tear into the poor little car.

This site by the way is friggen awsome,I have seen some pretty die hard forums for really popular cars,(240's, honda's, all tuner cars with large following) but I don't think I've seen such an organized following of something like this 20 year old car... awsome!

3sge tranny should hold up fine... I've heard that people use 3sfe trannies though...they bolt right up apparently...

Hmmmm, so you think the MR2 tranny with those bastard drive shafts would be a waste of time?

mafix' the resident mechanic can answer this better for ya.....but I'm SURE there's been quite a few posts.... Maybe check out the "nemesis" thread in the ride's section, he did a complete 3sgte swap into his 162...

probably a lot cheaperéeasier to use an FE tranny, as the 3SGE ones have the starter facing the wrong way. The kit to do the MR2 tranny conversion go for around $300-$350, basically a bunch of Alltrac shifter parts IIRC.

Youèll need an upgraded clutch combo for the tranny to survive.

the mr2 one works but the gear ratios are longer, similar to the ge trans. that is why i use the fe trans. the gear ratios are awesome for racing but they are not lsd. so it's really up to you.

So I've decided to use the MR2 tranny, I want to play with the LSD. Now I need to figure out what to use to make drive shafts, I've talked to some people that say I can just use outer shafts from a corolla and an inner shaft from an all trac or something like that... Anyone ever heard of setups for this?
