so i rebuilt this ge a year a go and now one of the connecting rods has broke, i ported and polished the head aswell as have headers. i want the car on the road asap, my options: next door to the shop i work at is an importer (canada) and they have a spare gte sitting in their garage. i can buy parts off it, should i buy the whole lower end and bolt it in my car? should i remove my header and slap the turbo on. buy the gte with wireing harness and ecu(wiring harness is cut at firewall)for 600$ and the turbo isnt on it id have to buy one. or keep my head. or auto wrecker get a fe lower end. my concerns are compression with the diffrent blocks and head combinations. am i going to loose hp by having gte pistons or fe pistons. the whole motor is coming out saturday so ill keep up

He has GE- but his mechanic has a GTE w/o the turbo- and the wrecking yard has a FE but he is concerned with compression.

    WOW- Ok
1st- you mentioned you wanted the car back on the road ASAP so you getting the GTE w/o a turbo dosent work for you right now. plus you would have to get a FE Tranny to go with that swap -Thanks Mafix!

2nd- 5sfe block will work with the GE head- but you will have to adjust the water passages.

3rd.- You will lose HP with either your thinking about- .

    Where are you located???

exactly right. i have a camry 3sfe transmission in my car right now anyways. the engine is coming out tomorrow, and as for the gte, its next door to the shop i work at maybe i should buy the whole engine and just buy a turbo, dono how long it would take id have to see. no matter what im gonna loose hp. oh and im in BC canada

i have both ge and fe axels the ge axels are in the car right now. i had a little look at the gte today at lunch im not sure if all the plugs are there for the ecu id have to pull the motor out and see whats all there i had the ECU in my hand today(3sgt). the wireing harness is cut up, one thing its out of a RHD car so i think that the harness goes through the firewall on the RHD passenger side. so id have to extend my wring harness. another bad thing, he wants the motor for $1000 and im starting to wonder. im located in campbell river on the island, the importer is Tyee Imports http://www.tyeeimports.com

Oh man that sounds bad! I wouldn't start the car anymore if I were you until I found the problem out, you're proabably making it worse by running it...

I ended up blowing a piston rod right out of the bottom of the engine when I had my 86, never made a sound like that but it ended up blowing right through the block.... It almost sounds like a ring has come off and is rubbing...

I can't get the stinking video to work. from what I've heard Tyee is a decent importer, some good stories some bad.

that's what I was guessing, even without the vid, cause I thought the same thing. maybe check the crank and throw on new bearings so it's at least driveable while you wait on a new motor?

new crank is on its way from chicago! with bearing kit fir 340$ so it'll be about a week, i have to take in the rods to get machined or whatever they do to them.
im going to look into getting 3sgte pistons because to turbo i need to be running about 8.5:1 compressions instead of 9.3:1.
so far i have lined up injectors, turbo with lines, ex manifold, downpipe
should i look into head bolts or just buy 3sgte headstuds?
    is there anything else?

Don't turbo it....it'll blow up sooner than ya think...just save up and buy a 3sgte and put it in.
