Well, I had these all posted on the old site. So Id thought I would throw them out here again. aeroform body kit, and if ever stop sinking money in the engine, ill get the car painted some day. had to make a mod to the rear bumper to make the exhaust clear. I custom made this entire instrument cluster. I think I spent more hours on this than I did adding the turbo. And this was the JDM 3SGE Turbo and all and for those following this project from the old site, the root of all my problems was a bad piston in cylinder #4. So now we are on to the 3rd gen swap project.
love the custom gauges! why did you cut the rear so much??? good idea i might have to copy that on my new build! in fact the more i look at it the more i like it.
we really need to talk... what gauges did you use for the fuel level and speedo? autometer but specs on the so they communicate... did you hard wire the entire gauge cluster? or did you make a plug?
ok ok i suppose Ill give out my secrets on the instrument cluster. First off. The factory plugs got hacked off. I built the instrument cluster on my workbench and I used pair of molex connectors to connect up to the harness. I custom made an LED network to use some of the factory idiot lights and turn signals, E-Brake, door open, Check engine, etc... Second, the oil press, water temp and EGT all use aftermarket sensors and I ran new wiring out under the hood. Third the fuel gauge was spec'd for a Chrysler. It had the closest resistive value specs to mate up to the Toyota Sending unit. So instead of changing out the sending unit(big pain in the ass) I just deal with it when its full, darn near pegged out, and when its on E its really only about 1/8 of a tank. And lastly, the Spedo. Its a standard autometer gauge. I bought a spedo cable for a ford of something. I went digging around through all the replacement cables at autozone until I found one that had the right end on the spedo. I had to cut the cable apart along with the factory cable mate up the ends. I also had to shorten the cable, weld it up and square it off. Big PITA!!! If anyone is interested in doing this, Ill help as much as I can through the forum. Also, I have plenty more of the black powder coated aluminum panels I used for the instruments. Im sure we can work something out. I also had to cut the rear bumper to accomidate for my rather large exhaust tips. There was no way to save the bottom half. So I reworked to what you see.
thats a shame... :BRING THIS BACK FROM THE DEAD: hows the car coming along? you MUST have some news for us man...
Whats with your steering wheel having buttons on it!? What are they for? I don't reallly care what thur for its just awesome and I'm jealous!haha
definately jealous.. mmy cruise control is fitted like down the left near the steering wheel.. wheel seems like sucha better place
one of those stupid levers? my 5g has it and I hate it so much, it's such a pain to use. and having a rear wiper is lame too, so much extra shit on there.
The cruise control on my car does not work. I'm not sure if the steering wheel buttons are fucked, or if it is the actual system itself. I'd like to get it fixed, as there is mostly rural highway where I live.
Its going...sort of. My engine work is only about half done. My summer got f****d. I havent had any time work on my celi, plus owning a house sucks. Ive had one major repair after another. THEN the damn tranny went in our family van. 2100 bucks later... Dont think ill be rollin by the end of this summer, but at least im taken my time and getting it done right.
2100 bucks!!! god damn thats expensive !! well glad to hear that your taking your time. its prob best than rushing things and having to go back and sort shit out over again..! i can def wait to own a house ay. sounds like an expensive investment, unless your rich and own heaps andd but them to do them up then sell them for more that would always be good... lol im just about due for a replacement tranny in my celi, but ill give it a nice new batch of tanny fluid to see if that does any wonders fingers crossed! also on the plate is new springs and shocks, along with a new clutch.... its gonna be an expensive next few months i can just tell lol good to hear the celicas received some attention tho. shit pops up all the time for me and i can never get anyhting done, plus i only get weekends to work on it and i usually am fucked from work and i just wanna relax haha
86GTMonky, Have you run the tests on your CC out of the BGB? Best way to figure out if it's the switches or under the hood. I had your same symptons. In my case, turned out to be a slightly over-stretched cable coming out of the actuator that prevented the vacuum from building up enough to hold the speed. Shortened the cable to less than 10mm play, and now everything's fine again. But, use the BGB to trouble shoot and you should narrow it down very quickly.
