so this weekend i figured i would finally fit the st185 single piston front brakes on. including the discs

now i was alays under the impression that you could use the calipers and the larger 278mm discs all bolt on how ever in trying to do so just then its not the case.
the disc diametre is to wide to allow you to bolt the caliper to the hub. Is this just a simple over sight on my behalf or have i missed a step. does everyone simply use the existing disc or do they swap the appropriate 185 hub? any help would be much appreciated. thanks

I just bolted up the ST185 caliper and disc, no issue, except you have to remove the dust cover, because it's small for the bigger disc.

Yep, single piston. I haven't measured the disc, but it's definately bigger than my old one, and that was 258mm. This one should be 277mm (from catalog).

could you do me a fovor and measure it. iv used the 185 discs from the twin pot setup wich are the same diametre but thicker.

the larger 277 or 278 or what ever it is wouldnt fit at all. The pad carrier simply couldnt reach the hub properly. each holes off by a few mm's

    I've measured it (wished I'd have a third hand :) ), and it's 277mm.

I also took some pics for you from how it sits:

    thanks heaps for doing that

my discs are 277mm aswell. strange. il have another go and get some pics. its not by much but they definetly cant quite make the bolt holes. thinking i may just get a couple of mm shaved off the outside fo the disc

rev are you trying to use the 162 bracket and the 185 caliper? that won't work. you need the bracket from the 185 as well.

    willie your a fucking genius

the calipers i am using came off a 165 running the bigger piston. just looked at my other set of 185 single piston brakes and sure enough deifferent pad carrier lol. never would have thought of it. cheers

Went to get pads for the g/f's Corolla and saw something interesting

JDM ST185 has 2 types of caliper -
    2 piston - same pads as ST165
    1 piston - same pads as ST202

Dunno what that means as regard to disk/caliper but the pads are the same on those models
