HiHaving my windscreen replaced on 1988 JDM convertible.Been told to be careful of using original trims/clips tht might fly off at speed.and local dealership asking for £50 per metal trim replacement.so thinking of replacing the worn metal trims with a universal rubber trim/seal.wondering wot ppl think or have used before?and what to do in terms of preparation and if windscreen guy need to use any special material like foam sealant etcthks!
stig has his tems car fitted with the rubber sealant along with someone else on the site...i forgot. it's not the metal trims that are weak, it's the green and blue plastic bits under the metal trims that are weak and prone to letting go. the trick is to place the plastic bits WITH the black windscreen sealant and let it set before putting on the metal trims.
Yup, Stig used the one-piece rubber from a T18, you can order that from Toyota I guess. I will do the same once it's needed.
cheers mate! so its glueing the plastic bits in with the sealant thn replacing the metal trims with a rubber seal - thks!
I'm not sure you'll need the plastic bits if using the rubber. Stig may chime in and correct me, and you can also look it up on his thread.
The plastic clips are supposed to be glued in with d/sided tape, check the bgb for details Gluing them in creates problems with water retention and rusting I used a ST182 rubber, the rubber glues to the glass and it hasn't worked properly as the ST182 screen shape is different, so the corners keep moving and making gaps. I think it was CJN that used a generic rubber which worked properly
Yep,the universal one i had done fitted a treat. It was the screen guy that suggested it as i couldnt source the side trims at the time,to be honest i was happy enough to do without them.Should just need to ask when you book the fitting Wayne
