    For a 1988 ST-165.
No idea if ST162 models fit.

There are 2 pipes on the top (from tank and to intake), and one pipe at the bottom.
    See image:

They are listed at 89$ USD + shipping from Japan:

I'd buy it new but shipping from Japan takes forever, plus I'm not even sure the part is still available.

    Anybody has one lying around?

I offer $35 + shipping for the hassle.

Would be of great help, parts are getting harder and harder to find.

Do you need it to pass a pollution test ?

If not you can just plug the 3 hoses, it will not harm engine or its performance.

I just replaced my leaking gas tank, and upon first refill gas would puke out unless filling very slowly, indicating tank pressure was not relieved properly.
I followed the vent line from the tank to engine compartment, and noticed the charcoal canister valve was stuck closed.

I indeed can "run" without a charcoal canister, however I would not feel safe either venting gas vapor in my engine compartment, or plugging the hoses, which would still prevent venting pressure from the tank when filling up.

IMHO If you run with the 3 hoses plugged and you are not having problems when filling it up might be sign of a gas tank which is not sealed properly... :/

Well I guess you could call that little line that goes to the charcoal canister a vent tube but not really.........
In the above picture that little rusty tube beside the big filler tube is your vent during filling.

The charcoal canister valve should be stuck closed when the engine is off, it will also be stuck closed when the engine is warming up or the O2 sensor says your running rich.

When you traced that "vent tube" get a box cutter knife and leave enough hose from the tank so you can relocate it instead of going forward route it to the rear bumper and secure it there so it vents vapors behind the car, you might want to get an inline fuel filter and attach it to the end of the hose to prevent dirt and dust from working their way into the fuel tank. Take a golf ball "T" and plug the other end of the cut hose that goes to the charcoal canister and secure it with a fuel line clamp.

If you really have to replace it you should get a new one. They use activated charcoal so they can absorb more vapors and do become clogged up over time

    I guess you are right.

I just tried filling up again. Even with what I called the "vent line" completely disconnected (the one that goes to the charcoal canister), the tank still won't fill up properly. The line is quite small, indeed, therefore as you pointed out its main purpose must not be to relieve quick pressure buildup when filling up.

I just had my fuel tank "restored", they must have made some kind of error when they assembled it. I still have no idea what the problem is, I'll begin by paying them a visit & see what useful information they can provide.

It is strange you have a secondary tube, as pictured (the rusty little tube). Mine looks different (more like an accordion), and it seems the venting path is hidden inside, as I can see 2 small holes when I remove the gas cap. That must be where the pressure is relieved, I don't see any other possible exit.

Might be a stuck valve of a clogged filter, no idea.

If you'd like one I do have one from a 88 165. Postage may be crappy though from AZ up there.

Your filler tube should look like this, one big hole in the center with a hinged metal flap and 2 air vent holes

from the side the yellow lines represent the fuel pump nozzle which is well below the air vent tube

this is a camry gas tank but the celica tank is the same 1 big tube for gas to enter and 1 little tube for air to escape
the little tube is higher up on the tank. this tank is standing on end for the picture rotate it -90 degrees for its proper position

if you look inside the big tube you should see a hinged flap at the bottom of the tube, this is supposed to close when fuel tries to
exit the tank through the inlet.....perhaps yours is stuck open or was removed when they resealed the tank

....that would be my guess, hinged flap inside tank not there anymore or not working

Regarding the Charcoal Canister, thank you very much, I'm good, received one from an MR2 Turbo 1991.
If anyone wonders, the charcoal canister is the exact same shape, except a little difference in the bottom. It fits.

You have an All Trac, I didn't catch that before. It has a different gas tank since you have all wheel drive and a rear differential your tank is located farther back. Here's a picture of your setup.

    No vent tube

looking at the picture it does appear to have a smaller tube inside the large filler tube

You can find a lot of interesting manuals here (mostly ST165):

Download them before the website disappears, they've been there for a while now, you never know.

You can also find pretty much any Toyota diagram on ToyotaPartsOverstock.com (as well as parts, indeed). Navigation is pretty clunky, though.

Ohhh, never mind, I guess you want the real paper thing...
I wonder how hard are those to find nowadays. I think previous owner of my card paid more than 100$ CAD to get it from the dealership.

I have the full ST165 BGB in an OCR'd PDF. Just sometimes it'd be nice to have the physical book on hand to do what i need.
