Went out ot my car after work, put in the key, turned it to on, powered down the windows for air (diver door open), closed my door and wen tot start the car. All I got was that little fade u get when you try to start on a dead battery, but it was like the ultimate dead battery, so low you would think your trying to start a car with worth out hearing aid batteries. So I got frustrated at my old car as i often do BUT decided maybe it was just a bad connection at the battery or something.

So i poped the hood, wiggled the terminals and went back to my door, opened it to a familuar beep beep beep and turned the egine over, it started as normal as I can rememebr it ever starting, may e a tad slow but probaby my mind playing tricks on me.

The clock and radio were reset, and I guess the same goes for my ECU (how long does it take to reprogram?)

I know for a fact my terminals wernt tight, not loose bout u could turn them with your hand. could this have been the problem? stoped and started it a few times after getting home with no problem.

    Any ideas, think Im right?

Well, Last time I had a problem like that it was my terminals, sliding is bad but I can still start my car when it slides, right now I have a screw going into the side of my terminal to help it get a full grip on the battery.

if a tighter clamp on the terminal doesn't work fuses, do you have a volt meter?

Yes, a loose terminal was most likely the cause. It was probably ok when it was loose to carry the amps for the windows etc....but when you tried to start it, it just couldn't handle it and needed a better connection.

Why don't you just get some new terminals? They're like $5 at Canadian Tire....

How's the fuse block look that's attached to the car? I know my 86 was fucked, and my 88 is fucked too but I wedged the one fuse together with a piece of metal hahaha...oh man..it works at least....but yeah, those fuse blocks are notorious for messing up....

yup you should have 3 boxes....I'll take a picture of mine so you can see what I'm talking about.... If they look ok then they probably are.... and for future reference tighten your battery terminals before you drive your car :p

Take the terminals off and clean them on the inside with some sandpaper or a fine file.

And for what ever its worth, these cars are notorious for bad grounds especially when the cables get hot. I had an 86 that would start every time on the dime when it was cold. Drove it somewhere I go to fire it up and DEAD. Nothing, turned out to be two grounds, one from the engine to battery and the other from battery to chassis. Both had corrosion inside the cable.
