Has spark, timing is right, spark plugs smell like gas...can't figure it out.

I read somewhere that maybe the intake manifold grounding could be off. I don't remember connecting this but i also don't remember where it goes or what it looks like.

    Any suggestions?

lots of variables.......check your coil? does it turn over at all.....?.....have you actually checked to see if your getting gas?......ummmmmm.........if you dont remember connecting something then i would for sure check that too.

i know its not the answer you want to hear.

sounds to me like you have a fueling issue. there a puddle of fuel underneath?

injectors all sitting in the head and rail properly? got all your fuel lines hooked up?
yer is it turning over at all?

No fuel underneath. Rail is installed properly. Did not check coil ut I will tomorrow. Sparks are damp with gas so I assume I'm getting gas in there. I'm not sure what turns over means but when I hit the starter it seems to struggle and dies. I've read something about the intake manifold ground from the wiring harness may have something to do with it but I don't have any diagrams that reflect this specific wire. Its a small circular metal piece that sits in the center of the harness in the intake manifold. I don't have it connected to anything because I wasn't sure.

so it starts for a half second and it dies? afm?

The harness must be grounded to the manifold

Check the plugs to the coil, distributor, throttle body and air cleaner are connected properly
There's also a green plug to the CDI unit which hides behind the manifold and sometimes gets forgotten

Yes it looks like when i hit he ignition it sort of sputters and dies. Is there a wire diagram? just to make surr i have everything plugged in correctly.

it could be your timing is out on the cam's

Wiring diagram won't show where everything goes

Check the cams, timing and all the component plugs as well as HT leads etc

Sounds like something unplugged to me

This wasn't connected when I was looking behind the manifold. Must of been hidden in the wire harness while I was installing everything. Is this the grounding for the intake manifold? If so where does it go? It looks like ti seperates into twodifferent pieces but connected to the same wire.

That's the manifold ground wire, from memory one was black and the other brown

There are bolt holes in front and at the back of the manifold you can attach it to (size 10mm).

I tried to find pics but it's either hidden by the injectors or behind when the motor is in

Alright so I tested a few things since I've been in the garage. I went ahead and jumped the fuel pump wire in the diagnostic console to check it out. I hear pumping noises from the pump and feel pressure on the fuel line so that checks out. I also tried to pull up a diagnostic code but the CEL just blinks over and over in the same fashion. One blink I assume.

I picked up a can of starter fluid though I'm a bit afraid to use it. I assume I just open the thottle body via the acceleration pedal and spray it in there for a few seconds then start the car? Maybe that would rule out a fuel issue if it does.

Do those manifold grounds cause a no start? I'm having this same problem after doing my head gasket and have zero spark.

its supposed to attach to the back side of the intake manifold. under the tvis kinda. iirc i thought that one caused a no-fuel issue.

Could you clarify it causing a no fuel issue?

i have that ground on my fuel rail

Found out the issue. Timing was off. Redid the timing and she fired up but now I have another problem.

The car lacks any sort of power. I could barely climb back to my driveway after. Also I have heavy white exhaust when I rev the engine though it could be just leftover from the hg replacement. Oil and coolant has been changed already.

now do a compression test it could be that you have bent valves due to timing been out and trying to start it let's hope not for you sake

Check your cams again. the marks are on the cams, I find it hard to judge on the pulleys

Once idling, set the distributor to where it idles best, then drive & see if the smoke continues

White smoke is either steam, coolant or brake fluid.
I recon you may just have some wet silencers
