Which gen 3SGE is that? I'm assuming gen 3 if its 11:1? The gen 1 is only 9.3:1, and its been discussed before, most people reckon it won't work, personally I believe it could with an aftermarket ecu controlling fuel and ignition (no piggybacks!)
as far as ive seen all the generations had 11to 1 but it is the first gen cuz its an 89gts hatch.but i have also found a 3sgte thats 4 sale for like 550 on craigslist close to me so i would have to do something to get the cash to by that plus i would be upgrading it because i cant stand things that are stock.
No mate, every generation 3SGE and 3SGTE has a different compression ratio. From what I remember: Gen 1 is 9.3:1 Gen 2 is 10:1 Gen 3 is 11:1 Gen 4 red top beams is 11:1 or 11.5:1, black top beams is somewhere around 11.5:1 GTE's vary between around 8.3:1 and 9:1. Does the GTE come with loom and ecu? If not, you'll need to budget that into your swap.
ok thanks bud the engine comes with the loom which it doesnt matter to me if it comes with the ecu cuz im gonna run a standalone no matter what.
You can't dirrectly swap a 3sgte engine into a GTS. The starter for a 3sge is not in the same spot as it is for a 3sgte. For the swap you would need - 3sgte engine/wiring harness/ECU/Intercooler/radiator/AFM -transmission from a celica with a 3sfe engine (maybe half shafts to I'm not sure)
You need the tranny from a 3SFE, but you can re-use the stock GTS Axles that take a beating alot better than the 3SFE ones do.
Keep the GTS tranny & bore the hole out for the starter like a 3s-fe tranny. GTS tranny has a 4.18:1 final drive compared to the ST/GT tranny I beleive was 3.74:1 Makes for a much quicker car keeping the GTS tranny. my FWD swap kept the GTS tranny. The bolt holes are allready there. Just got to cut a hole big enough for the starter to slip through, the bolt holes will align the starter correctly so you don't have to worry about having the hole for the starter absolutly perfect.
bottom line for the money you'll spend to get a ge to hold boost just get a gte. boosting a ge is doable but just to pricey when you can swap a gte right in.
if you're worried about getting money to get the front end fixed and the car on the road i wouldn't be worrying about a turbo, lol
