Im close to buying a new car, just deciding whether I would consider a 162 if a good one came up. Im more wanting to get an automatic cruiser sort of car, but I love the st162. My worry is, its common for the 3SGE to burn oil, correct? A motor burning some oil isnt bad, but mine goes through a bit, and also blows it out the exhaust if revved hard! Its either that or fuel...wtf! Bacially, wtf is happening there? Just rings? Could it be fuel? Just black liquid... Also, should I write off the 162 if I want a reliable non oil burning and spraying car?
you have to remember the GE and GTE motors are all yamaha build sport motors. being that these cars are 20 years old and most of them have been beaten fairly well and not maintained right, there will almost always be some oil burning. weather it be valve seals or piston rings. the biggest issue with these is weather to rebuild or replace.

Thats interesting Ant. How many kms on that motor now? I remember Mafix saying the later motors didnt have the ring problems, so if i was to consider another 162, it would have to be an S2....
I hadnt started it in a few days, and reved it in nuetral a few days ago and it blew a bit of smoke at high revs.
Figured out that the reason for the smoke when i reved it a few days ago is old petrol, because i've never seen it other than that. Cause i havn't driven it in over 2 weeks.
