the water temp sender gauge looks to be under the alternator? i checked there and found nothing...

but under a different page it says that one of the things in the coolant elbow is the sender?

    so there's 3 different things?
    water temp sender gauge
    water temp sender gauge connector
    water temp sensor

    ugh gonna get a pic...

i dont know if its different on the FE but i would asume its the same.

There is a temp sensor in the water outlet with the thermo time switch and bvsv n crap.
Then on the neck of the water pump aka the housiong of the thermostat there is another sensor

on the neck of the water pump is the rad fan switch, on the water outlet, black and blue with vacuum tubes are BVSVs, brown two pin connector should be water temp sensor, which leaves us with a red one pin connector...

    putting pics in a sec

what the....that's definitely not like mine..

your rad sensor (for the fans) should be on the lower rad hose inlet (thermostat housing) to the motor.
all motors have the gauge on the water outlet neck. the single wire gauge.

    hope that helps

Yes that GTE pipe looks a little different but the senders are the same

All gen1 GE's & FE's have the fan switch on the thermostat, GTE's have it on the radiator -
all later cars have the fan switch on the bottom of the radiator.

The radiator is a better option as the switch will not work if the water level drops drops below it

the sensor that you have there that says "water temp gauge" is the same one that was sold to me by the shop, however i DO NOT have that anywhere in the engine bay, nor do i have the right thread size holes for that sensor.

    this is mine:
all of them are the bigger thread size.
    identified with your help stig:
across the top: efi water temp, ????, BVSV (blue)
across the bottom: cold start injector, BVSV (black)

so that red plug MUST be the water temp gauge?

    connects to:

i know about the fan switch after dealing with my overheating problems a year ago. it lives under that cover, which i couldn't uncover since it was too hot at the time:

i took a chance and i had the red plug replaced, it still doesn't give me a reading on the gauge.
so i replaced the gauge itself too, and the sender, and all fuses are good. wiring?

Yes, the red plug is the correct one - looks like the sender is busted already
(there's a hole in it and a wire hanging out)?

If the threads wrong they obviously gave you the wrong one

Test the wire & gauge by touching the wire to ground, the gauge should move.
Test the sender resistance to ground when cold, it will change as it warms up

the sender is 2 days old. the "hole" is a sharpie marking. and where is the wire hanging out??
if i touch the wire to ground and the gauge doesn't move...then it's wiring somewhere?

check for fuses or relay's first

Need to check the bgb for resistance readings and gauge test

I collect spare senders and gauges but to date never had to swap any

why i'm thinking that it's burnt wiring because i had the gauge fuse go once before, and that was due to me installing extra LEDs for the cluster. (the LED legs weren't secure enough and shorted) hopefully, that isn't the case. will report back with resistance readings.
