Weird issue that has me stumped

1988 GT with 3sfe. Just a bit of a high idle in Park and Neutral - 1400 RPM go into gear and she sits right at 750RPM. I adjusted the timing and idle per the book but still have the high idle.

Next symptom is if the ambient air temp is over 75 degrees Fahrenheit and I drive roughly 100 miles without turning off the car the car starts to have a soft miss with a Check engine light that comes on with each miss. After the miss starts it gets worse to the point I have to pull over. If I shut off the car for 5 minutes, it starts and runs fine for the next 100 miles or so. The check engine code is for Lean.

And just recently when I start the car cold it takes two starts to get her to fire up. ( I suspect the thermo timer has gone bad )

Here´s what I´ve done so far. New plugs, wires, dizzy cap and rotor. New MAF ( or whatever Toyo called it that year ) new temp sensor for the EFI. New Denso O2 sensor.

Each of the changes has made for more power and pickup so cheers to that, but I´d like to take the car for a long trip so I need to fix this. I find it very strange that this issue only happens above a certain temperature.... Any thoughts?

kinda sounds like a airleak or vacuum leak.

i would suspect the distributor. which houses the coil on that engine.
    or the fuel pump.

So it turned out to be the Fuel Filter. Thanks Mafix for steering me in the right direction! This was replaced 1 year ago, so probably time to clean the fuel tank. Thought I´d try the easy thing first (which almost never works out) and figured I´d have to change the filter if I replaced the fuel pump anyway, once I pulled the filter and I saw the sludge that was in there and the fact that I couldn´t even blow through the filter I knew that was the issue. Thanks again. :hurray

Newcastle Brown Ale work as payment? :cheers2
