So the time has come. The dog has been painted for a few months now. As many of you have seen I had it painted semi-gloss (satin) black. The painter mixed black, clear, and flatner (uerethane) all into one, then shot the car twice. He said its the most hardcore toughest paint he's ever seen. My car really is near impossible to scratch. It does however show water spots and dust like you wouldnt belive. Think gloss black x 5. Its driving me nuts, so I think the time has come to put some protection on it. My garage no longer smells like fresh paint and its been a few months, so im assuming its done off-gasing.

-Ive done a test spot of meguiars nt tech wax 2.0 and one of nu-polish. the megiuars is looks better as it has more shine.

-I think im gonna go at it tomorrow, and I'll take a bunch of pics. Anyone have any thoughts/advice?

--btw, unlike most of what youll find on the net waxing it hasnt resulted in a "gloss" finish. Judging by the test spots this is actually going to come out really nice...unless it becomes uneven.....i guess...maybe.

yep, saw both of those. theres not alot definitive on it, seems like everyone has a different opinion. could be that there are a few different ways to achive this paint wise. the one thing i keep seeing over and over is people worried about to much shine. Im pretty sure its never gonna look like gloss paint so im not worried about that, but i wouldnt polish it.

I used meguires nt tech wax 2.0. you can see in the last pic that just after it was done it looked uneven and you could see the "swirl" marks. I was a bit worried that i screwed up big time. But no, it just needed a few days to dry...? looks awesome now, more like the pic before last. 2 coats btw. once the weather clears ill try to get out and get some good shots of it. did make a huge difference, gave the "wet" look

-also had the windows done at 50% last week.:mrgreen

That is an excellent result as you would expect. As you say , with your paint it's not going to achieve that wet gloss look. But just to keep on top of it, have you tried Dodo Juice Red Mist ? It's like a detailing spray that you just spray onto the cloth and wipe. It is expensive but I've discovered it removes tar stains, but don't think you'll notice much on yours.

thanks steve, yeah the splotchyness settled out pretty quick. im gonna try the meguiars quick detailer spray next time i wash it. the bad thing with that paint is that it literally gets dusty just from 1 night in the garage. i need some kind of anti-static dust repelant spray. i have heard lemon pledge....

-edit: next car i get painted is gonna be white! gloss white! not hhuge on silver so...
