    Hey all,

Well about 2 months ago i was going to do a head swap on my g1, amazing how getting married sets things back and...'redirects' funds from things like cars ;)

Well my brand new head is still sitting there so im wondering what the best way to increase compression is?

I have stock ecu, i wouldnt think id need an aftermarket one to take it up a bit.

With timing adjustment and better fuel, would you see noticeable power, torque, or response out of it?

Can you do much with it on stock pistons/rods?

I know its a combination of things, just looking for a few pointers regarding the compression.
I cannot find much info around the web for the life of me, and i have one mechanic (friend) telling me it wont do much, but i have an uncle who ran a 400hp escort and i can tell you that had some hella compression on it to get that!
Im more looking for 10-20kw will all my mods, zorst, intake, cdi ignition, and a few other little bits so i can finally get this back together and going strong!

    Cheers,

    Alex

The most effective way to get more power from a 3sge is to swap in a beams. If your set on building your engine get a set a forged pistons unless you can find second or third gen domed pistons (third gens have 10.5:1 CR), kelford and toda makes cams for first gens. but when you get over 10.00mm of cam lift you will need to swap out the shim over bucket to either shim under bucket or shimless bucket (from a 1zz). As for engine mangement I would highly recommend getting a standalone as the factory ecu serverly limits what you can do as it cannot be tuned.

Beams was what i was planning, instant +70kw would cause a towel shortage on the central coast i know, but i have a fully recon head for free, and beams is ~3k which i will do at a later date.

Appreciate the info, though im not looking to fully race build the engine. unless thats whats required for a 10-20kw gain from stock?

I have headers, and am willing to look into an ecu and higher comp pistons if they'll get me there (with a proper tune on the new ecu)

I know you cant say with certainty, but is that a reasonable expectation? If not ill simply put my new head on and be happy with it as it is.
If any extra outside-of-engine components also need changing thats fine, i can do them whenever. :)

    Cheers,

    Alex
