since i got my 88 celica, whenever i shift from drive to reverse, i always hear a loud bang from the transmission. what could be the cause of this problem? i've searched the internet, they usually say that it's the tranny mount. NEED HELP!!! thanks
How do your engine/tranny mounts look?? Are they old and worn? If they are...might be time to change them, they are 20 years old!
They're not hard to replace either...there's a writeup somewhere here do a search at the top of this page for it...
if it's not the mount which i doubt. more likely it's the fluid needing a change or bad TORQUE mounts.
If you shift quickly into reverse, it will bang. My friend Doug did it super fast in my GT-S, sounded like a bomb going off. You just gotta ease it into reverse. Both of my Celicas have had that problem.
Yup- thats what mine did like 4 times and then It dissappeared- ****Hey that could possible be why the "Plug" is coming out of the 5th and Reverse???
come to a complete stop whilst shifting, then see if it still bangs. my old ford used to bang all the time when switching from drive to reverse (at speed)
