Had the ole inspection today, it did not go well. :(

The good news is they let let me look at the undercarriage, and for the most part she's in good shape, nice and solid. YAY! :)

The slightly bad news is bushings are pretty bad IMO. Ugg $300? :( Oh well, that will have to wait. Quick question about endlinks... are they suppose to be tight or a little loose? Trying to sort out the suspension issue I have.

OK, now the really bad news is next. I'm told my PS Pump is leaking (Looked like oil to me since I know I have a small oil leak :? ) and the steering rack boot is ripped too therefor I need a whole new rack assembly. WTF? I really don't see how I need a whole new $140 rack assembly even if the pump leaks and I need a new boot. Grrr. Geeze, just get a new $110 pump, put it in and get the boot kit $40. I really don't see why I need the rack assembly too. Is this the normal procedure? I think they're FOS trying to pull a fast one. Any thoughts? How difficult is this really? Maybe I can do the boot fix, clean off the PS pump and take it somewhere else and have it pass?

Sorry for all the questions, I'm alittle upset since I really don't have any money, I feel like I'm gettin' ass raped here, and worst of all I have to drive the Honda 'till I sort things out.

Yeah, one of the shops I took my car to also told me I needed a new rack. Since nothing was wrong, I thought they were just trying to fuck me over...then I took my left front wheel off and noticed that the arm coming from the rack was slightly bent. Fuckerdoodles. They basically told me the same thing about the steering pump leaking, but that was just spillage from me putting in more fluid without a funnel (shut up). And endlinks are supposed to be tight, mine are also lose. Sorry I can't be of more help.

    rack slightly bent

fucking losers don't know what they're talking about....my mechanic said the same thing

it's a TIE ROD END that bends, the rack is the internals....they just try to make you pay more money...a fucking tie rod end is 30 and easy to install

So the tie rod is the thing that actually attaches the rack to the wheel hub? Just making sure I'm clear on this before I go back and tell them to kiss my ass.

Yeah, I have just replaced all 4 tie rods, its an easy if bit of a painfull task, they undo with a stupid allen key + nut arrangement.

My PS was leaking from a top hose, wound some PFTE tape over the union and tighted it up, jobs a good un.

If its front wishbone bushes then on my Alltrac, they again were not to hard to do, bit fiddly to un bolt, but if you can make a home made press to get the bushes out you should be sorted. Sway bar is an easy on bolt on / off job for the bush.

The rear however is a little more involved. so would leave to some one who has a ramp.

You should really have the car steam cleaned underneath- cause they can sy whatever anyou cant say No unless you know exactly where the leak is coming from.

Prep youself get it cleaned and put white masking tape where you think the leak is coming from- take it for a little spin and that will let you know !! ;)

    Yup

The long piece is the inner, and the short piece is the outer!

yeah, well, the long piece is the one that's bent. Noticeably so. Which explains why my alignment is so completely fucked. That and the tie rods are loose, I just had shocks put on, so it's probably even worse now. God, my car needs so much work...

    Thanks guys.

This was really bothering me 'cause it just wasn't feeling right to me, so I went another shop and chit-chatted with the owner there about my car. He said even if those were issues, the car would still pass unless it was unfit to drive which it isn't so yeah, it sounds like this guy was trying to screw me. I have another apt with the new guy on monday for another inspection so it will be interesting to hear what he has to say when it's up on the lift. Had a great little convo with the new guy. Kinda funny too since he asked me to sell my car to him like 4 x's!
Well, that's where I'm at. I'm no mechanic wish I was, but it's going to take years at this pace. I guess somethings are squared away, but the endlinks issue thing is still bothering me. Why are shop people telling me that they're supposed to be loose? It just doesn't make any sense logically speaking that is. :?

The endlinks? Like the actual part that attaches the tie-rod end to the hub?

They should be able to turn but loose is another story...

    btw

My car passed safety with 4 holes in the floor (3 of them were covered with sheet metal and fiberglass) but I still have to seal them with that tar bs...hah...my windshield is cracked....my ebrake hardly works, my rear brake dust guard was missing, my "rack" was bent, and upon further inspection, clearly it was just a tie-rod end bent, that I had fixed, and now have perfect alignment!

Then again, I knew the mechanic who did the safety and he told me to just please drive the car until it blows up so he doesn't get in trouble for saftying it lol

No, sway bar endlinks, maybe I'm using the wrong terms. These are what I'm talking about:

Where I live in VA, we literally have more mechanics than places to go eat. Theres one place I take my car to at inspection time because they pass anything, and another that I take my car to because they are very friendly, do great work and don't charge outrageous amounts. For instance, my friend brought in one of his cars (1968 Chevy pickup) because the rear axle was loose. They redrilled the frame, put on new bolts and aligned everything: $30

WOOOHOOO! This shop passed me! :D

OMG, if I had to drive the Honda one more day I was going to
I think I found a good honest guy, hard to find a shop like that around here. YAAAY! He did say I need to replace the PS Rack asap. As far as the PS Pump, it's fine just need to monitor fluid levels untill the rack is replaced. So, it sounds like the other guy was trying to screw me by making me buy parts I didn't need. grrr. SCUMBAG!
UGG, I still need to cough-up cash to get it fixed asap though.

Oh yeah, he asked me to sell him the Celi a few more times while I was there. HAHAHA, sorry man! I think it's a good sign when a mechanic asks repetedly to sell your car to him. 8)
