Ok, so it seems like im gonna keep the 4g after much thinking...
The 510 will be sold soon for about 6-700....

    I want a half-trac swap!!!

1000-2000 ive seen for the clips...

Which is best or not best to go with ?

If i get a harness and ecu will it be a straight swap ? Plug and play ??

there are 2 major factors you will need to know before you choose a motor.
what are your goals hp wise
what are you going to use your car for

Street Terror, Daily driver if needed, canyon carver, not 1/4 mile

Id like about 300 Wheel horsepower....at 2600 lbs it should move at that power level ...

Basically i need something that will hold its own on the street or whereever i end up...

then a 1st gen motor should be fine.
either a clip or a complete engine, harness, ecu
make sure you have the entire uncut harness and ecu with the motor!

How much power can i reliably run on a 1st gen ??

nearly 400 with stock bottom end.
more likely your 300 goal can be reached with stock head, ecu, block.

"my team" could technically do this swap in 8 hours.

Wow, so you really are going to do it. i did the 2nd gen swap as you know. it's a direct drop but the wires are a mess. there are two major parts you need to wire. one's the ecu (10 wires or so you have to figure out the others plug right in) and the others the fuse box. the 2nd gen swap is easier to find with more aftermarket parts, plus more people have done the 2nd gen swap then the 1st gen. and if our fuse box and the rest of the wiring is the same between our cars, i can talk you through the wire mess.

again that all depends on motor/ecu combination. as before, there are 3 different 185 motors/ecus. most of them can be interchanged.
