Sorry Rye, not up on all the names here, but is Jeremy 1fsgts? From reading his build log, he asks Mafix what standalone he used because he is thinking of buying one, which was posted after the engine blew up. But thats how it reads, he can confirm.

I guess we just do things differently down here. Turbo conversions aren't all that uncommon, I've seen a few that worked quite successfully. I've yet to see a 3SGE+T conversion here, but 4AGE+T conversions are easy to find.

I'm interested in finding out why all the 3SGE+T conversions have blown up so far. No one seems to know why, but I don't believe high compression is the issue. From what I have read, there are Caldina 3SGTE's that come from the factory with 9:1 compression ratios, and the gen 1 3SGE is 9.2:1 if i recall correctly. High piston temps is another possibility from lack of oil squirters, but then again this should only be a problem with high boost, not a modest amount. The blown 3SGE+Ts that I've read about seem to have ring-land failures and cracked pistons, which too me seems to point to to much ignition timing causing pinging/detonation.

So I guess we can keep arguing why they will/won't work, but I think we're better off trying to work out the reason why the 3SGE+T's that blew up, well blew up :p

oil starvation issues is the biggest thing.

No, Jeremy is not 1fsgts, he was "turbo_trd_celica"

Oh, and guess why you haven't seen a 3sge+t conversion over there but you've seen lots and lots of other conversions? :p

Well to be perfectly honest, I haven't looked that hard either because I can't legally do it. I haven't seen any 3SGE+T conversions on OzCelica, but I haven't really checked on Toymods or the Toymods archives, so someone there may have done it.

Yeah, It CAN be done...but realistically it's just not worth all the time money and effort when you can just buy a 3sgte that's already more reliable then turboing your own 3sge.... Just trying to save you some trouble in the end that's all budddy :D

Well I have the resources and contacts to build a 3SGE+T MUCH, MUCH cheaper than buying a complete 3SGTE over here, but as I have said I'm not really interested for another 18 months or so because I can't legally drive it :p

I'll post up if I ever get to that stage :D
