Hey Guys new starter problem. I turn the key, the car starts. Let go and the starter still keeps going. Turn the car off and it still keeps turning over. And you have to pull the battery cable for it to stop. Then you can put it back on and its fine until you try to start it agian.
Well I can't really say I've ever heard of a starter stuck on before but I'd guess somehow the starter solenoid is the problem. Starter operation is as follows -turn key to start position -ignition system sends power to starter relay -starter relay closes and sends power to starter solenoid -starter solenoid closes and does 2 things A) starter gear is pushed out and makes contact with flywheel B) contacts in the solenoid close and send 12 volts from the big battery calbe that runs to the solenoid to the starter motor So the possible problem could be - ignition switch is faulty and still sending the start signal after you return the key to the on position - relay is faulty - starter solenoid is faulty 1 thing is certain your starter solenoid is staying on when it shouldn't be. The reason for that is either a starter solenoid that is defective(weak spring,rusted/worn internals) or the solenoid is continueing to receive 12v from the relay when it shouldn't. You have an All Trac so put a meter on the relay wire that goes to the starter solenoid. Start the car and turn it off, the car should still be turning over via the starter. See if the meter shows 12v at the relay wire to the solenoid. If there is 0v then the relay is ok and the problem is definetely in the solenoid. If there is 12v then you have to look back to the relay or ignition switch.
the selonoid is stuck on the starter. hit it with a hammer. if that doesn't fix it get another starter.
Its not in the alltrac. Its in the GTS. I have a new starter. I just put the reley mod on it 3 or 4 days ago. And its been working ever since. Until today. So I will try I spare starter I have on the shelf and see if that works.
things I have tried are pulling the 12V to the relay. Still goes. The only thing is pulling the whole positive battery cable
100% positive i have the answer The Starter Silanoid Sticks open. Time for a new starter BTW:Should call me, ya lil bitch
Although you have solved your problem if you still have the other starter you can probably rebuild the solenoid. Heres one all apart.
