So apperently I am not the only one who is unclear on the compatability of st185 shifter linkages to a 162. Anyone wanting to chime in on this is WELCOME!...... Both cars are gt, however i doubt that has any relavence, anywhoo....Any information is much apreicated!
well one thing i do know about them is the , little bushings that hook onto the gearbox fit , i have a 5th gen 1 in mine
Fifth generation shifter cables are not combatiable with fourth generation Celica's. Shifter cables are one of those things that are NOT backwards compatiable between generations of Celica models. If you need to replace your shifter cables you must use the correct one for your model and year. If you are doing a tranny swap ie. MR2 Turbo tranny or Camry V6 tranny swap than you need to use the Alltrac cables but only the ones from the same generation of Celica will work ie. ST162 = ST165, ST184 = ST185, ST202 = ST205.
Just to elaborate a little further. All generations of cables have the same connectors on the tranny side. 4th 5th & 6th gen celica's each use a different shifter mechanism so the tranny cables connect to each shifter slightly different. You could use 5th gen cables in a 4th gen if you also swaped in the 5th gen shifter. I've got a 6th gen shifter that I'm going to swap in whenever I find some 6th gen cables. 6th gen shifters are sweet. None of the 4 bolt holes line up with a 4th gen but I'll get it in there.
