I posted this on All-Trac.net under 935 Motorsports because this is probably the route I will go at the end of the month unless anyone see's a reason why I souldn't.

    MA61 Aluminum Rad

In my search to find an aluminum radiator for my ST165 I ran across a link to 935 Motorsports that said an MA61 Supra rad would work and you had some sort of kit to adapt the MA61 radiator for mounting in a ST165. I clicked on the link but it took me to an air filter I think and now for the life of me I can not remember what I googled to get that link.

I see that you are about to release a new MA61 aluminum rad and and I think it would look pretty sweet in my Trac. It would look pretty sweet in my Supra too but the Trac is a bigger issue right now.

So out to the garage to measure my MA61 rad. roughly 26" x 16"

Then outside to measure my Trac rad. roughly 26" x 16"

So their roughly the same size and the inlets and outlets are pretty close to the same. Only difference being that the MA61 rad does not have the little return inlet for the turbo coolant. So a piece of 1 5/8" diameter pipe (or whatever the radiator inlet size is) with a smaller pipe welded to it for the turbo coolant could be spliced into the return hose to the radiator to allow for the missing turbo coolant fitting. The other thing I would have to do is to make some custom brackets to bolt the celica cooling fan to the radiator which is not a big deal.

It may also be possible to drill and tap a hole beside the inlet on the top of the radiator for a smaller fitting for the turbo coolant return line.

BTW the MA61 rad will list for $359.00 which makes it's pretty compareable to an OEM ST165 radiator pricewise and I can make brackets for next to nothing so the only real issue is a turbo coolant return line.

We're working on getting a custom built aluminum ST165 radiator right now.
Shipped price will be US$325 anywhere in Canada and $300 anywhere in the USA:

BTW, that doesn't look like the OEM radiator in your 165. Is it a brass and copper one made by CSF?

Yes I have seen that but there has been no update since Nov 1 so I'm assumeing that your still looking for a ST165 radiator to send over. Then theres the 2 month lead time which means the end of January at the earliest to actually see a radiator. Why don't you just send them a GTS rad? Are they not the same dimmensions? If you want a free GTS rad let me know. I can even drill a hole where the turbo coolant return line would go.

Now cooling is of great concern for our engines. They have a design flaw around the number 3 cylinder which causes it to get insuficent cooling at the best of times and now that I've had the first snow fall in my area I can see there is a red spot on the ground under the front of my celica so it's rad time for me (it's probably just hose & clamp time really but its a good excuse to get a new rad) and although at $299 Robert has the best price I've ever seen for an OEM rad if for an extra $100 and a bit of my labour I can have an aluminum rad then thats the route I'm probably going to take.

Besides it's also a direct bolt in replacement for my supra rad too. So I'll probably go with the pipe mounted in the return hose for turbo coolant so I can use it in my supra later when you celica rad becomes available.

No idea Rick. Came with the car.

The GTS rad is different and it's a long way to China, , so I want them to have a proper model to work from.
I'm waiting to hear back from someone so we can action this project. I'll check in on him this week and get an update.
Let us know how it goes with your mod.

Got the PM, but BPS 300 = CAD$600 and that doesn't include another BPS 100/CAD$200 shipping!

That's a beautiful rad but just too damn pricey for me. Thanks for the information. I've already got our custom rad order on the way, should be ready in about 3 weeks or so. We'll see how it turns out....

You are very fortunate to possess such a radiator

Oh yeah more work for me  Thanks Rick

I'm not really complaining though. 2 hours of hand sanding with 220,400,1000 grit sandpaper and a bit of hand rubbing with some polish has produced the results you see so far so tomorrow I guess I'll drain the coolant and pull the rad and do the rest of the rad and give it a good power buff at the end.

BTW Rick I'm still in for the ASI aluminum rad. We all know 1 4th gen is never enough so wether I get another Trac or a GTS I know I'll need another rad sooner or later.

Well Rick I can now tell you that it was an AMEX rad.

When I check AMEX points me to this website
http://www.transpro.com/index.htm unfortunately everything seems to be plastic end caps now.

Almost done the initial sanding of the top tank.

I think it started out life as a GTS rad and someone drilled a hole and soldered the coolant pipe into it.

yes that is a GTS rad. the st165 radiator is 2 core 1.1/4" thick. that is a single core 5/8" thick.

Top tank has been buffed with a rubbing compound. It still needs a polishing compound
