squeeky noise from the belts

A few days ago it rained a fair deal wile I was at work... I had forgotten to place the hood back on my car and the 20 dollar car cover at walmart doesn't even resist water. When I got home I was in an oh shit kinda situation. I freaked out gabbed 2 towels and a big roll of paper towels and started drying everything off I could and then I grabbed my hood dried it off and put it on the car.

well today when I went to start the car up I heard an odd noise coming from under the hood when I went to remove it. I pull it off and I look into the engine bay and it was squeaking like an old child's wagon going down an endless hill!

I looked at my belts (I DIDN'T TOUCH THEM I SWEAR!) all I could see was a rusted wobbly wheel at the bottom of my motor that spun the alternator belt...

because I didn't wanna stick my head down any where to find out where exactly... I have no idea what squeaking... any suggestions?

It's probably your tentioner pulley for your alternator belt. Maybe try putting some grease on it or something.

The wheel your talking about at the bottom of your motor is your crank shaft pulley. I highly doubt that it's the problem because it's connected directly to your crank, and there's no bearing in the pulley.

    Maybe your belt is slipping?

Anyway, more information would help to diagnose the problem.

Old trick I learned is to take a dab of black RTV and place it in the teeth of the belt you think is squeaking.

But I would put money on it being the tensioner pulley for the alt. Damn things always squeak.

You can buy belt anti-sqeek stuff just about anywhere. Never tried it myself, but it's out there.
