Springs?

A month or too ago, all 4 shock absorbers were replaced in my st162. However when i corner, even at slowish speeds, it still body rolls right over and scrapes the front lip. The whole car also wobbles from side to side a bit after you drive over a kerb or speed-hump. Would I be right in thinking this is the 22 year old springs worn out? How can you test the springs to see how firm they are? Id like to pick up a set from the wreckers, as they are dirt cheap, and I dont want to spend alot. Also I want to keep the car at stock height for practicality reasons...

Sounds like the springs. If i was you, and was plannng on keeping the car for a while, i'd get them new though. Theres nothing like driving on new springs after driving on old ones, the difference is huge. Only cost a little over $200.

200 for all 4? Stock replacement ones? What company? Thanks alot for the reply mate. Its bugging me, it handles like shit, 350 bux for all new shocks, and i still drive over a bump in a corner and the whole thing wobbles rofl.

Your a legend mate. But are those normal prices or are they that guys special prices? Maybe I should go with sport low, for a slightly lower height. Hmmmmmmmmm. Was expecting to pay that price for a pair. WOuld be 340 after all done, because 100 for wheel alignment all round even if I install them myself. Thanks alot man :D Bet they will make a huge improvement.

Off-topic, you have XR-Pilots old 162 right? That had the motor replaced? Hows that motor going? I want to get one from U-Pull it (dunno if you heard of that, self serve wreckers in SA here) and put it in with whoever I can find to help...My rings are fubarred I think, I have no power.

Thats why Im asking this, I want to put in springs, front brake pads, a motor and do what I can with the paint... Then shoul;d be awesum! Bet yours goes pretty hard?

No prob. I am pretty certain those are normal prices, though he just calls them special, lol.
Yeah, the motor goes great. XR Pilot bought it for $300 with 110,000kms on it at the wreckers. I actually have heard of U-Pull it somewhere before. Theres a wrecker in Sydney like that (Pick 'n' Payless) and they sometimes have "all you can carry for $50" weekends, would be awesome if you got a motor! Try to get a gen 2 or 3 3S-GE if you can find a good cheap one.

All they have is ST162 SX Liftbacks, may have a few 5th gens but I dunno wot motor they have? 5sFE? Bolt in? Better power ot torque?

I should be able to find a good 3SGE, they wil only have a gen 1 of course. If i take a battery, i should be able to compression test them hey?

Reason why I want one from there? Motors start at $90!

What u think my chances are of gettin a good one? Another motor that has 200,000kms shud stil b easy 2 find a good 1, coz the lancer has dun 215k, and it aint using oil or missing performance...

Yeah, 5S-FE. Look for an MR2. Make sure you get a good engine, dont judge it by what the odometer says. It may say 100,000kms on the odometer and be completly rooted, or say 240,000 and be reconditioned or something. Check it out, and test the compression for sure.

Chances of finding an MR2 are very slim....What model and whats in them?

You think a compression test would be sufficient if the oil is clean etc?

You got any idea how hard it is to get the old one out and the new 1 in? Im thinking its more time and making sure you remember where everything goes more than it is difficult....

Look for one made after 1990, with a 3S-GE, or even better, why not a 3S-GTE? I dont think it will be very hard pulling out, but putting it in may be a pita, just get someone you know to help you, that always helps.
