I'd like some advice on getting better wheels for my '89 Convertible. I've got the 13" stock wheels currently, and recently put new tires on them. So, from a cost standpoint, I'd prefer to keep the same size wheels so that I don't have to buy new tires. I've tried a lot of the normal wheel resellers, and there's just not much out there. Does anyone have any advice on where to buy better looking wheels of the same size? Or how about advice on what wheel sizes I can change to without creating other problems? In other words, what combination of wheel and tire sizes can I use without interfering with drivability?
Aren't those 14"s??? I didn't think that the 4th gens ran on 13"...It was hard enough to find 205-60-14's for my GTS. Vicdat
I know. Imagine trying to find 13" wheels. Every site I go to wants to sell me trailer tires!!! The standard issue for the '89 vert were 13"x5.5" aluminum alloy wheels with 185/70-13 tires. I don't mind going to 14" wheels but I just bought the 13" tires. I didn't spend much on them, but still I'm trying to keep things cheap. So, I'd like to buy 13" wheels if I can find something decent.
Thanks. Will check them out. Let me ask a slightly different question...Do I have to do anything to the car to be able to use 14" or 15" rims/tires? What would I need to do to make the switch from 4 lug to 5 lug wheels? It's one thing to buy a new set of wheels, but I want to avoid the unexpected expense of making modifications to the car in addition to the wheel & tire cost. Any and all advice is appreciated. thanks.
My Celica came with the 4lug OEM 13" wheels to. I use 15" now with 195/50 tires but I keep the 4 lug. If you want to change to 5 lug you need the wheel hubs from a 5 lug celica.
I bought a set of wheels from American Racing -very cheap -like $65 each but they will fit the 13" tires and 4 lug wheels. Here's the link... http://www.carid.com/american-racing-wheels/estrella-silver-machined-441854.html
