I'm not sure how many of you have heard about it but HotRod Magazine did an article about rolling on Rustoleum paint on a car. The method is to dilute the Rustoleum with Mineral Spirits to about a 50/50 ratio. You want to do thin coats since rolling it on causes a lot of orange peel if the paint is too thick. It takes a total of 8 or more coats to get it perfect with wet sanding after every other coat.

Here are some pictures from before I started Painting it.

Here are some pictures taken after the 2nd coat and before sanding. I plan on sanding in the morning and will post more pictures as my endeavor continues.
NOTICE: there still isn't 100% coverage, also there are lots of bubbles. I learned after doing the 2nd coat that having a hair dryer in one hand while rolling helps to pop the bubbles.

Progress is slow at the moment, I have gotten 2 more coats on and done some sanding. looks good from far back but once you get up close it is obvious i have more sanding to do. I also have several more coats to go.

This is the link to the HotRod magazine article http://www.hotrod.com/techarticles/body/hrdp_0707_1962_ford_falcon_budget_paint_job/viewall.html

This is a YouTube video that is really good as well. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_qPJTTRWttQ&list=UUcMUEq5ImMdbQQFS5yYxoEg&index=4&feature=plcp The uploader has several videos about it.

I'm gonna do this soon as well. There's tons of videos on YouTube about this stuff. I think for the money, the paint job would look amazing, if done right. I'm going with black as well. And from all the forums that talk about this, it requires even more sanding since black is PITA.

Here's a video where this guy painted his truck black. Looks good even after 2 years.

    Looking forward to your progress.

Having a blowdryer with you is a MUST!!!! This method creates so many bubbles and a blow dryer on cool air pops them instantly. My first coat i did I didnt have a blow dryer and now I am sanding it all the way back down. There are just too many uneven spots. One of the main things when doing this is to ensure the paint is thin enough. It will take several coats to get 100% coverage but it will look much better and be much easier to sand if it is thinner.

I didnt have to sand as much as i expected off. Hopefully by the end of this weekend the paint will be done and i can let the car sit in the garage for a few days so the paint can fully cure....the last thing i want is to chip it before its fully cured.

Any ideas for sprucing up some steel wheels? I cant afford to purchase new wheels right now and dont want to leave mine looking ugly and just blah.... I was thinking about getting some wheel paint and just sprucing them up a bit with that.

I would really like a set of stock rims, my neighbor has some but his are 5 bolt....

wet sand it with 1000 grit, again with 2000 grit, wash it, let it sit for a day or so to dry. then clear it. then wet sand it again with 1000, 2000, and finally polish it up!
and this guy is F*CKEN amazing!!!!

The paint job has been on hold for the last few weeks. I've been out of town for a week. And with all the craziness of getting ready for a new baby i just haven't had much time...but that is the plan.

SO......I haven't really done much with the car....I've had to use it as my daily driver and the paint isn't finished yet. The last coat has been done for a while and it is all sanded except for the drivers side door....just haven't had time....now i just need to clear and sand some more. I have almost 2 weeks off of work for x-mas so hopefully i can find some time during the crazy holidays to get a bit of work done....

Anyway here are some pictures of how the car sits right now!

    Cool Photo effect

In the next few pictures I blacked out part of the corner lights to see how it would look....I actually really like it!
