kay I need a new radiator for my GTS. The one that i have in my car now has a crack in the top of it, so it doesn't keep pressure so it over heats. I was looking at getting a aluminium rad. But i dont no what do you guys think. any and all imput works for me
As far as I know, there is only OEM replacement radiators for our cars.(4th Gen) Ive looked all over. Good luck finding one that doesnt have plastic tanks on it. Almost all the parts stores only have those. The factory ones were brass tanks. You can probably get a replacement from the dealer for some $$$. If you want to put in a performance one ie:koyo youll have to move the core support mounts. Talk to Mafix, I believe he did that on one of his.
you can get new rads for the non turbos for about 130 all day. the aluminum, rad is very expensive and requires custom mounts but can be done.
Here are pictures of it installed: I had to cut the mounts off the bottom and weld in custom ones! This radiator is taller, so you are going to have to mount it a 1/4 to 1/2 above the engine suport. You are go to have to make new top brackets too. The coolant overflow line is going to have to get extended also. Thanks, Chris Snyder
Mafix- Where did you order your rad from, what did you pay and and what year celica do i need to order it for to fit my 87 GTS? Do you have any pics of the bottom brackets?
Radiators for the GT & GTS are all metal. You shouldn't have problem finding them, they're about CDN$200 where I am. It's only the All-Trac rads that have the plastic end tanks; stupid design.
I know this is an old post but I thought people who have 162's may be interested in the PWR aluminum radiators. I put it on my All-Trac but I test fitted it on the 162 I had and it fits perfectly fine without any modifications at all. Direct replacement except you have to plug up the outlet for the turbo in N/A applications. -Chris G.
