Ok my timing belt broke and now my engines shot, its a 3sge, so I wanna know wuts the newest 3sge engine I can put in it without havin to change a lot of stuff. Will any out of a 5th gen work? I really need to know kinda fast as this is my daily. Thanks in advance.
you can do another 3sge, or you can do any s series motor, ie 5sfe or you can hybrid the two and get a 5sge. why not just replace the timing belt, its a non-interference engine?
We rolled the cams back to make sure all the valves are closed on each cylinder we tested and the psi was b/w 30-40.
sr5punk is right; your quickest and cheapest option is to just replace the belt. The beauty of non-interference motors
I'm confused as what exactly your saying, as sr5punk said this is a non interference engine so your engine with be fine, there's no way it's farked, with any engine replacement unless you drop in a standard engine there's gunna be a decent amount of work involved due to different wiring and ecu operations, engine mounts and driveline selections. i think if you replaced the timing belt you;ll find you'll be up and running again. Having said that if you really wanna do the swap go all out and throw in a 3S-GTE. nothing like a bit of turbo to make the pain go away.
I dont wanna really do a motor swap unless I have too, I just dont see why its got such low compression now.
a mystery that is but what kind of compression gauge have you got (ie is it one that screws in?) and hand turning the crank to do a compression test is probably not going to be all that accurate in my opinion, just because with out the timing belt the engine isn't doing it's standard rotation with valve operations.
yeah, id say just roll your engine back to no1 tdc on the compression stroke, and replace the belt, she'll purr nice then... no need to swap.
compression testers need the starter spinning to work. you've got compression and that is all that matters.
Ok thanks, I just picked up the timing belt and tensioner that I ordered yesterday but it was already dark by the time I got them so we're gonna start on it tomorrow and I hope everything turns out fine cause I havent had any luck finding a motor yet in my area, but theres a few more junkyards I can try, but thanks for all your input.
