I had the plastic bit which covers the pop up headlight broke and I replaced it with one from a scrap car. They are exactly the same, so why doesn"t the repacement stay flush with the rest of the front grille. It sticks out about 3mm . No matter how much I adjust , I even tried the round knob that alters the pop up lights to no avail. Although I won"t lose sleep over it , I just wondered if anyone else has encountered this problem.

The 86-87 headlight trim pieces are different than the 88-89 ones.
If that's not it, check the metal part where it mounts onto; it could just be warped. I had to zip tie one part of my grill down to make it flush.

EDIT: after looking at your pics, are you missing the little weather strip that runs between the trim piece and the metal headlight cover? I can't tell for sure from the pics...
