Replacing brakes and rotors too. I've had great luck w/ Brembo and Akeprobono on the Camry, but like the looks of the Hawk HPS Street Brake Pads w/ brembo rotors. Thoughts? I'll also be adding the Goodridge G-stop brake line kit and figure that's about all I can do. Gotta pull it all apart anyway to replace springs and strut mounts so figured 'what the hell.' Feedback on Brembo and Hawk, please.
Do you think they're the best for non-track use or is there some other brand I should investigate? Also, would you consider Hawks to be much noisier than other brands or about the same?
non track i'd say akebono. they last a really long time and they are great brakes. noise? every brake job i do goes out quiet and stays that way. you should never have any brake noise.
I've never had noise w/ the Akebono on my Camry. Tirerack rates the Hawk as noiser and dustier because they're more of a comp pad, rated w/ more stopping power than the Akebono. Maybe I'll just stick w/ the Akebono ProAct ceramic. Do you use any clips and/or backing compound/brake lub on yours?
Kinda figured that. Just didn't wanna F it up if there were better or worse brands/styles. Thanks. Input much appreciated.
Can shims and retainer clips be reused if they still seem to be strong, or is it best to automatically toss? Oh, and does anyone have experience w/ the Akeprobono Street Performance pad? Tire Rack rates the Street Performance as more stopping power than the ProAct, but I have no idea if it's worth the extra $40 for the front/rear set. Thanks.
i use street on mine. and the clips can be cleaned with a wire brush and reinstalled if they are in good shape.
I just saw Toyota OEM pads (from Champion Toyota's website) for about $10 less (each, fr & rear) than Akebono. The Akebono UltraCeramic is considered an OE replacement, and doesn't claim to be a better pad (like the Akebono Street Performance). Do you think the Akebono better than Toyota, or should I just go stock?
the stock and akebono street seem to be roughly the same. i forget who makes toyota pads but it very well may be akebono.
