86 gt with the 2s-e motor, when 1st started need to keep the rpms up or will stall and then after driving a couple of miles it will then idle but around 1100, feels alittle sluggish when shifting. changed tps, checked for vac leak, cleaned map, check engine comes on and off when let of pedal. I do have an exhaust leak the mesh pipe its in the mail, I dont think thats it be will see. is there a cold start sensor thats what im thinking, or some other sensor, anyone have this and fixed it, driving me crazy. :banghead

when was the last time the fuel filter was changed? i had similar symptoms with the needing to keep up the rpms, sluggish acceleration, weird idling, CEL as well...

(and just wondering if you got the digital dash in your 86?)

What check engine code is it throwing? If you don't know how to get the code #, follow this info and let us know what it is:

i'm not sure about the 2s-e set up but for a 3s-fe, it's in the engine bay, underneath the charcoal canister, which is roughly behind the transmission.

i would check the codes first before doing the fuel filter, but if you can do it on the cheap, why not. i used a fram fuel filter. part no. G6476.

they should have it seeing as it is the same filter as the 2s-e/3s-fe/ge/gte and the 4a-ge

He has a 2s-e engine thats why your not seeing a code 5.
The manual down in technical is for a 1988 3s-fe/3s-ge thats why I'm not trying to help here
I know squat about the 2s-e engine never even seen one.
I don't even know if you can assume that code 11 is still going to be ECU

Check code 5 I believe is the oxygen sensor which would make sense in this case.

Thx for the input, I ordered the o2 sensor and fuel filter will be in thurday. Doing full exhaust also next wk. I'm also thinking it's the mass airflow meter, looked at YouTube on cleaning it but doesn't come apart like most I see on there.

Well this is for a 3s-fe or 3s-ge so I don't know how close it is to yours
but theirs not to much you can do to them.

Where it says Damping Chamber in the top picture should be covered
by a black plastic cap. You can pry that cap of and clean up any
contacts inside associated with the potentiometer you'll have to use
silicon or something like it when you put the cap back on to seal it.
You don't want water getting in there.
The measuring plate /compensation plate are all one piece, make sure
they move freely. Their on a spring (Return Spring) so their will be some
resistance you just want to make sure that rust isn't preventing free
    movement.

You can try cleaning up the contacts on the plug

replace both of the intake manifold gaskets while your at it there probably havent been replaced in 20 years, it seperates in the middle of the intake runners.
