Thanks for the part number. Were you referring to rockauto or partsgeek? it seems that rockauto has better reviews than partsgeek but th elatter has better pricing. I was thinking if i get scammed i can always call my credit company to have it reversed.
oh i was referring to rockauto. i've never used partsgeek. but i'm not sure who else can vouch for RA, but i believe jon and i would.
rock auto. my go to parts place. i think mafix actually turned me on to them. only issues ive had were with a set of super cheap-o bushings i bought for my truck, didnt quite fit right. never tried to return them, i think they were like 10 bucks and had ordered them with a bunch of other stuff. yesterday i ordered 4 complete strut assembleys (sp?) for my little sisters 01 corolla. 580ish shipped to my door, and i could print the rancho buy 3 get 1 free rebate coupon so i can get back 112 of it....love em.
actually, i remember i bought some stuff from them before when I used to have my 91 MR2... bought a few filters and they were spot on... I'd probably just go with them... they are still a lot cheaper and have a variety of barnd parts to choose from compared to the local autozone or advancedauto.... btw, the corner light on my rear passenger tail light is broken... other than that, the brake lights are all intact... i've been lurking around ebay and found that there are actually people selling the corner light such as this one... http://www.ebay.com/itm/261113255622?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649 my question is, will this one screw on to the rest of the tail light or is this for a different car? I have an 89 gts liftback... thanks..
got some of the parts i ordered... i think i got a wrong part... does a GT uses the same half shaft as the GTS? at least for the right side....
if you look at your taillight closely, you'll see where it goes. yes it is the right one for an 88-89 car, but not 86/87. good find no it doesn't use the same one. when you pick which part is which, you have to double check the fine print where it says GT or GT-S. although ive heard of people upgrading from the FE axles to the GE axles. apparently it's just a swap. i wouldn't know as i changed my whole transmission along with the shafts.
yeah... unfortunately i bought the wrong one for the right side... i just realized this when i got the part and saw it... i was dumbfounded that the other end did not have a spline in it... then i checked my receipt to find out that the one i ordered for the right side was for a GT and the left specifically said GTS... will it matter if the brand I buy for one side is different from the other? I will be returning the part but I cannot wait for the new axle to shipped... I will probably just buy one from advanceauto at least for the right side... i did change my tranny too to the 5sfe from a camry... but i bought the axle for the GTS... will this be an issue?
no. i'm using the 6th gen (1997) 5sfe from a celica gt (usdm) and i use the oem 1987 GT-S 3s-ge axles.
i ended up returning the right side axle and just bought a reman from a local advanceauto... hopefully having two different brands of axles won't give me any significant issues during the day of install...
So i got all my parts from rockauto. How come the left cv axle does not have a spline at the other end? Im pretty sure i ordered the one for a gts. Its like the other end is flat with some groove inside. This is a pic of what I got: http://www.cardone.com/Products/Product-Detail?productId=665003&p=rock I'm assuming this is a wrong part as I was able to buy another kind from advanceauto that had splines on each end just like what was taken out from the car.
I called to return the item and told them the case and they will pay for return shippinh. Im guessing the axles was suppose to be for an all trac?
wow that sucks, they are normally very good. also check the pictures of the individual item your buying, sometimes you can see its not the right one. -good luck.
Yeah. I called and they said they will refund it. Theyre pretty good with customers and their prices are fairly good too. But sometimes when i get coupons from advance auto the prices are comparable. How about autozone? I talked to a guy who works at autozone and told me about their warranty. It seems too good ro be treu but apparently most of their products carry a lifetime warranty including brakes???
Got the 5sfe tranny in. New clutch... Working on rack and pinion. Next is timing belt. Cant wait to het the car on the road. Hopefully the tranny works fine and not a trash.
Clarification needed for the on going tranny swap to 5sfe. I need to use the s53 clutch fork right? And since i want to replace the cluth ad weel, the kit i need to buy is still for a celica and NOT for a camry even if im using a camry transmission right?
you still use a celica clutch. i used a pressure plate/clutch disk/release bearing from st162 celica, not 5sfe celicas. and since you're using the release bearing from a st162, you need the fork from the s53. the fork from the s54 will not work on the s53 release bearing.however, i believe converting everything over to the 5s-fe celica set (not camry) (flywheel/clutch/pressure plate/release bearing/fork/trans) SHOULD work as well...
Ok... so far the camry 5sfe tranny, fork, flywheel and starter are now bolted... I am using a celica st162 clutch kit... the size of the release bearing of the camry s54 is slightly different from the size of the new bearing from the new clutch kit but i am hoping this will not cause any problems come testing day... on a side note, i am finding that the mount I bought from rockauto seems to be not 100% exact fit... bolt holes do not line up and the middle hole of the mount is somewhat smaller... these are what i boughtDEA Part # A7220 DEA Part # A7252
if you use a st162 clutch kit you need to use the st162 fork! st162 left, st202/5sfe right. basically the "fork" portion needs to go on the C shape of the release bearing.
