I've owned my 162 for 8 years now, it's my first car, passed down from my parents. It started with no leaks, then some leaks, then lots of leaks, lots of fixing those leaks. Gearbox got a bit grindy, One head gasket, then a second after it overheated... Some would say it's time for a new car, the smart thing to do even. Not me. Whether it was out of love, or principal, or sheer stubbornness I just refused to let my car be something I "gave up on", just put in the too hard basket like sp many other people may do. The final straw was after I had just redone my head gasket, put new rings on the pistons, new crank bearings all round, then I found a little mark on the crank where #4 conrod bolts on. Cracked crank shaft.... Right, that's it. Commence full engine strip down, #1 cylinder is in a sad state, all pitted, the block is just worn out. So I bought a second hand engine and box, (with extractors on it! Woo!) Now I've got the whole lot stripped down. I am going to town on this sucker! Had the block honed, found a fully reconditioned head on ebay and bought that. It's mint. Where I'm at now Blocks cleaned up, all internals are back in the block, new welsh plugs (don't overlook those) and as I write this I'm taking a break from fitting my new oil pump. Once that's done, I need to order a clutch. Then it all goes back in. Fully rebuilt. And then I'm doing my cams. I was going to wait to finish before I posted, but I'm posting this now so I remember to take and post photos, and something to keep me working. Expect updates, there'll be another 162 on the road soon.
