Ok so I really would like to get a "Cold Air Intake" on the celi and I would like to run it out of the bay to make sure that Im not just sucking up engine heat, but where I live, when it rains it pours! So i was wondering if you guys had some ways to put a CAI in without sucking up water when it rains?

I would stick with putting it where the existing air intake is and building a head shield around it.

Ok would keeping the original Air Box work or do I just need to start over?

Keep the rubber pipe and AFM and run the cone filter off that for simplicity. However there was a thread somewhere that mentioned keeping the stock box with an upgraded filter was a better idea for performance.

imo, the original set up is already a better cold air intake. the air source is already coming from behind the headlights piped into the original air box through the fender. i've tried the above set up and it slows down low rpm response.

i think the original box + k&n panel filter is the way to go.

yep, ill third the original air box+k&n. everything that feeds the box is from outside the bay.

-eventually ill go with a larger cone type, but will build a sealed box around it and feed it from the same places that the oem box is fed from. its one of the reasons my battery is on the back seat now.

Yep, stock airbox and TRD filter for me

There is no way water can travel all the way up past the front wheel and there is a drain pipe behind the battery

A lot of people fit cone filters, I think mainly for the sound they make - my only concern is the lack of braces on
the AFM which leads to intake hose splitting prematurely,
If you do fit one make sure you brace the AFM to the body

Yes. I'll take a picture of it shortly but I fabricated a bracket to not only hold the AFM in place but the oil catch can as well.

In an honest opinion, is there any difference between a TRD and a K&N Filter?

k&n is most likely cheaper...and i'm not sure the TRD one is reusable?

yeah i hate my ebay cheapy and yes i only bought it for the bad ass sound it makes....lol....but it mess with the idle due to i dont have a bracket.....im going back to my stock with a little bit of modding soon.

TRD is re-usable, wash & oil and it's good to go

Dunno about the K&N, so can't compare

k & n can be reused wash and oil also, for 1 million miles

Yeah go with K&N or TRD. Before I turbo'd my 3SGE I tore out the stock airbox and I was sorry I did. I didnt see any difference in performance.
Im going to fab a custom intake for when I put the turbo motor back in so that Im not sucking hot engine air. Ill post pictures, but its going to be awhile.

Like someone said in this post earlier, If you dont brace it, it can cause hose cracking. Maybe air is getting through a crack after the MAF
