    hey guys..
a new one.. lemme just list the symptoms:

idling pretty high (1500 +) when it's in park or neutral. and slightly high (1100) in drive and reverse.
just randomly drop to normal levels after a few mins. ususally is happening when engine is cold.

started to feel as if something is bogged up (engine was stuttering when started). it then caught itself after a minute or
two, but when i hit the gas, engine pauses before take off for a sec and then moves.

any ideas for this prob? can the probs be related?

the engine will up the idle to like 1500-2000 when its cold untill its reached operating temp, sounds normal to me.

I agree that high idle when cold is fine, but if it's "bopping up and down a bit" I'd check it over for any loose vacuum hoses. Check the big air tube that runs from the AFM to the intake manifold. If there are any leaks or clamps loose, it will cause erratic idle.

    thanks rick..
i did some inspections around the motor.. touched a few things while it was idling high and sure enough.. when my hand landed around the plug wires on the distributor cap the rpms dropped to normal range.. hmmm too dark to further inspect but i think im on to something.. ;)

My distributor once cap gave me a nasty shock b/c it was leaking voltage - the electrodes had melted down. Be careful!

I would be cautious of putting your hand around plug wires and distributor cap also!
I have a high Idle most of the time. it was surging up and down until I fixed the Intake hose.

Now it just idle high until I put it in gear.

pulled a few vacuum hoses and there was no change or vacuum felt in any hose.

Where do I start checking for vacuum problem?
