first off i got the 1988 Celica GTS Liftback, 3s-ge for $250. the guy wanted $1500 i talked him down he was drunk :> He rebuilt it with an 86 3S-GE head. Why well he cracked the 88. So when i got it i hooked up all the vac lines THANKS TO YOU GUYS for hlping me on that! What I have done so far is New Spark Plugs & Wires New o2 sensor New fuel filter Now forwhats wrong! 1> the afm if i close it will die, if i have that door open just alittle it will have irractic idle, if i open it it idles fine.... when i played with it i opened it up and movd the teeth by 5 or 8 and door stayedopen just enought so theres no irractic idle. but idles at 1300rpm 2>I went not even 200 KM on a tank off gas. 3>the headlights ether ones up and 1s down. 4> How can i clean the AFM.. the computer through the code for air temp sensor, and o2(but i got new o2)so thats all good its really running rich... im thinking of getting a new or used afm .... if any one could take the cover off of the afm and take a pic and post would be great .. i need to know stock settings...' with the tb screw closed it idles at 1000rpm with afm door open.....= lot of gas i think so can any one help me again!
also when i turn it over 80% of the time it clicks 1s then doesnt turn over ....... wtf new starter???
MITT4G posted pics of the inside of an AFM down in the Technical Forum AFM Guts !!! I would be guessing you should be getting 600 - 650 km per tank of gas.
at LEAST 500km / tank even with a heavy foot.... I'm thinking your afm is very very dirty and its not allowing itself to move freely enough to correctly compensate the air / fuel ratio....
i only get between 400-500km per tank which is about 26mpg when i calculate it out (i dont run the tank all the way down). thats slightly worse then the 22mpg city and 28mpg highway when the car was new but the engine is 22 years old and i mean common you gotta have some fun . 200km is way way low but i wouldn't kill yourself trying to get 600-650 (which is 28mpg or better). i would try basic math to figure out when you get into the 22-28mpg range and then not worry about the km's u get cauz at that point it just depends how far you run your tank down.
AFM is connected to A/F ratio's so its possible, also. 86 and 87 had one wire o2 sensors 88 and 89 had for, if you have an 86 motor on an 88 ecu make sure you have a 4 wire sensor and its wired up proborly. SInce you repalced the O2 id look into makign sure tis wired up right
650!!?!?!?! shadddup! now way in hell. The only time I can get more than 500 is when I'm travelling...all highway. Back to the topic. Have you inspected your intake hose very closely for tears/cracks? Take it out and clean it with carb cleaner and a toothbrush and seal any cracks with shoo goo.
well i can check it cause of the afm how do i clean it i checked it for voltage its good whats wrong you think its dirty hmmm i need to know how to clean it .... i would guess carb cleaner on the tip of a q-tip? and take it out?
hey i llooked in to the o2 sensor and the 88 ecu GTS modle are the 4 wire same with GTE motors that year
ok at idle the afm were is it suppose to stay cuz mine if i leave it close(like stock) it has irract idle
whoa dude....you need to start making complete sentences. I didn't understand a word of the last 4 posts. Is English your second language?
Normal System Operation ( no malfunction) - The light will alternately blink on and OFF for 0.25 second intervals.
ok i wasnt sure and srry if im not clear its hard to explain lol.... i think i need a new afm the computer is sending the air temp sensor code... does that mean its dirty or needs replace>S
