Hey all! I came across this pic of a Gen1 3sge in an old school corolla. I really like how they have hidden the spark plug leads.. how would they have done this?? It looks like they have run them out the side (back) of teh head somehow??
thats fucken sick and sexy as hell how did they get hte motor in a rwd setup? and the spark leads are long, so they just swapped for some that go horizontally, ive seen that before. they would just go out the back 2 the dizzy now see why didnt they make the celicas with motors that way? woudlve sold heaps more!!
Theres a few ways they could have done it. There is enough room in the centre spark plug valley for shorter leads to hide them. Another way it could have been done would be with coil-on-plug ignitors, similar idea to what RB's, SR's and CA's have standard. That is definately a nice and tidy RWD conversion though, its interesting to note that they've retained the stock dizzy for a CAS only and blanked the top off for clearance. Which kind of leans to my COP theory The individual throttle bodies with the standard fuel rail is very well executed Sterling - if you search, the RWD 3S has been done to death. Not an easy conversion to do properly due to oil-drain back issues. I have 3 spare gen 1 motors and considered making a RWD 3S drivetrain but decided it wasn't worth the effort. Welcome to st162.com Mick! Yes, I post here too
Hahaha hey man... i was reading your post.. got to the bottom and was like.. huh.. whos this.. then i saw your username lol
welcome Mick, another aussie user ! i love the intake setup! and it really looks alot cleaner with the leads hidden like that!
reminds me of the honda motors... I love that clean RWD mount kinda makes you want to do a 3S-GTE swap into a 1977 Celica GT Liftback
http://www.bigflea.com/corolla/index.cfm?ContentID=111 Well i have cut a piece of aluminum to fit, just need to drill the holes for the screws tomorrow for the trial fit Then off to u-pull-it to find out which car i can get a set of plugs of that will be just teh right length. Then buy a brand new set after a week or so of driving to make sure everything is ok. My plans are to paint it black with a toyota symbol in the middle .. but since its going to be screwed into the rocker covers, and its in the engine bay its going to absorb plenty of heat i would imagine. What im not to sure about is since the aluminium is super smooth and shiny, i would have to use that etch primer instead of the normal primer wouldnt i? Will that be alright to use considering the heat it will be coping under the bonnet?? Also i have used that paint that you use for extractors which when it went on was nice and glossy.. but after it wore in turned out a really matty finish. I wont be happy unless its a nice shiny black finish. Either way ill post up some before and after shots tomorrow!
if somebody would yust simply say what year car i need to use a gearbox from that gonna bolt to a 3sge , khmeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
