Anyone familiar with the headlight motor circuit, in a 1989 Toyota Celica GT-S? Both my headlights don't wanna pop up or go down. - I've already checked the 30A RTR fuse in the engine fuse box - I've checked the head relay in the fuse box - I've replaced the blue retractor box in the centre console - I've cleaned the contacts on both motors and still nothing. Both the relay blue box, and the relay labeled "HEAD" in the Engine fuse box both seem to function correctly and both click Is there a fuse Im missing or something? I've also tried using a different motor to no avail Im kinda out of ideas. I've heard checking the grounds might help but I would think that would be done through the harness it plugs in to no? Any suggestions are welcome!! Thank you!
Do you have access to the wiring diagram? Since both don't work, I would think that it is a fault to the blue RTR box. any cold-cracked solders in the circuit board?
Yeah I just ordered a wiring diagram bgb for my car, however I've tried with 2 retractor control blues boxes and still no luck I don't think both of them would be bad but who knows. The thing I can hear the relays click on and off when i turn the switch on.
i'd check the wiring from that relay to the headlamp itself. maybe the relay is clicking but no power is going through it to complete the circuit? but if the relay is clicking at the fuse box, that may have isolated the cabin from having faults
Thanks for the replies, there were some fog lights installed previously but I don't think that would have anything to do with it, I guess I'll just check and see if there's voltage at the plugs for the motors I guess that will really tell me if theres something wrong with the wiring or what.
So I found out that it could be bad fusible links that would be preventing, the head lights from flipping up, the bgb says to replace them if they are not flipping up. The fusible link box is by the battery however Im not sure where it would be as theres AM1 and AM2 fuses right at the top post of the positive side of the battery. Anyone have any pictures?
Correct however I was looking at the wiring diagram, I think the fault lies within the wires going from the blue relay retractor box, to the actual motors themselves
On my old 85, I ran 12V leads from a battery direct to the headlight motors to test them but it turned out to be a relay issue like the guys have diagnosed.
If I can't find any faults in the wiring, Im thinking about just running a wire from the battery in to the cabin. Then just have a toggle switch, that I can flip to have the head lights switch on or off? Would this work would there need to be anything else in the circuit that I'd need?
