i have the 2-se engine. how hard would it be to swap to a 3sgte or 3sge engine? would my transmission fit it? what parts will i need besides the engine alone? im going for horsepower as a 2-se engine has little. im going to be racing (on a track) an eclipse that has about 92 hp, and very little torqe. i not only want to beat her but i want to bury her, that way she knows the power that is Celica. any info helpful thx
Hey, I too have the shitbrick known as the 2SE. GE or GTE engines are pretty much direct bolt-ins as long as it is a 4th gen celica, which it is. You may have to change a few things, but as long as you have the wiring harness that goes with the GE or GTE you should be fine, just make sure you have everything that goes with whichever engine you decide to drop in. 2SE transmission will not fit any of the others, or if it does the gear ratios will be all wrong for the engine. i had the 2s...and the swap to a 1st gen 3sge was a wonderful thing...also Since you have the lightest body..You got a nice little platform to work off of.
Since no one has mentioned it, you'd need the ECU that corresponds to whatever engine you drop-in also. -K
yeh go for it man kill that eclipse new engine ecu wiring other various parts and some elbow grease, or $$$ and youll have a weapon a 3sgte will rip ur front tires apart and a 3sge will still give u decent performance. both are good enough to compete with.
little update: left the 2-se in. i put on a bombs air intake. i raced her. whipped her badly. like 3 car lengths badly. week after my hatchback wreaked. getting panish's hatchback down here in the spring to whip her even worse
the only thing Ill give it props on is gas milage and a giant paper wieght...the 3sge was a excellent choice when i swapped mine......!!!Man I love that little rever!!
thats just it i kept the 2-se so she wouldnt suspect anything and say no to the race. if she say me scraping an engine and saw a huge crate delivered then she would've gotten scared. there was an accident and the hatch is now gone. i have pics of her in the junkyard. she was one hell of a ride... and now im moving on. ill post pics up when i fix project "Iceman".
