Had my first spin-out today, thank god for quick reflexes!!

    hey guys, i had my first spin out today, here is what happened, i was travelling along gorge road, here in South Aus (look on google earth, you will see a windy road) coming back from the infamous corkscrew road, as i rounded a corner, i hit a puddle, and then the car started to flick, no way i could stop it from spinning, so i attemped, successfully, i might add, to stop cypher hitting the wall. stopped a good few centimeters from the rock wall then a red van rounded the corner and stopped a good distance from me, i waved thanks at him for letting me back on the road, and pulled into the nearest turnoff. not a scratch!! i was shaking, and was basically smiling on the way home... this proves how strong the celica's spirit is. it wont let anything bad happen to the driver. im definatly going to stick with the celica for a good few decades yet!!! the cars spirit and my razor sharp instincts saved me from a nasty accident. do this with any other car, and you might end up down a gully... but being a car as good as the celica, i stopped well before it happened. im loving the celica even more now!!!

    Daamn :shock: good to hear nothing happened. Hydroplaning is pretty scary, not much you can really do.

    Good tires are important which reminds me, I need some :oops: ;)

    yea, i was freakin, the whole world went into slo-mo, and my reflexes went lightning fast... so easy to spin when hydroplaning... its not fun. i need new tyres too, i gotta save up for some aswell!

    In future you may not be so lucky in the wet on slick tyres
    Drive to the conditions & learn from your mistakes
    or you'll be looking for a new car soon!

    You got lucky, this was a warning - even the best drivers in the world
    can't "control" a car once it's aquaplaning or drive at the same speed in the wet!

    Too much speed!!!

    i was only doing 50. the limit was 80. the guy in the red van was miles back. the puddle was at the worst point in the road. not to mention it was uphill, and was a sharp corner.

    well, it was a puddle of something, chill out dude, no need to get so nasty, jeez. it was also raining that day too, take that into mind while you attempt to bite my head off, mate!!!

    I've had too many friends turn themselves into dogmeat already - don't read between the lines.

    I took my girlfriends Corolla to the coast the other weekend through the worst mountain pass I've seen, at night in the rain at 80km/h. On a blind downhill hairpin, a truck had lost a load of sand (read mud) and the car slid, but did not spin or cross the lines. If you check the traffic report for Whangamata, you will see the main road was closed on Friday night (15th May) due to mud.

    That's how I came to that conclusion & apologize for biting your head off

    It's a common beginner mistake to back off or brake, with a FWD car the trick is to accelerate hard and let the car pull itself straight

    i learn ultra quickly, even though i am one of the most careful drivers around. it was pouring with rain, and it did feel like there was oil on the road, as i hit that patch.

    Apology accepted. just know for next time, if you bite my head off, i can bite twice as hard. i dont wanna get to that stage. you seem like a good bloke to get on with, keep it that way, ok?

    if you can lock this thread... do it, nothing more is to be said here.

    my coupe only has 110 hp (at the flywheel?) from factory, be around 90-95 hp now, so if i tried to pin it , i would of crashed. so im glad i braked. nothing i could of done when the car was flicking about... so my instinct kicked in, and saved the car and me.

    ahhhhh i remember my 1st spin out, was 14 at my 2nd track day. Scared the F*$% outta me, 90 k/ph into an oil patch left by the bloody rx-3 infront!
    im very fortunate and glad that my 1st spin out was on the track where i was in my shit banger laser (hence i was behind everyone else haha). iv had several looses since all in a few different FWD's (and all on the track) and i gotta say sometimes powering through was the answer and other times braking was the answer. Theres way to many variable to instantly say what should be done. Its a split second decision that needs to be made at the time, the only way to prepare is know the cars capabilities, other than that good luck! The only thing IMO that is constant is that if you lock up the brakes ease off and reapply! its sad how many people dont know that.

    anywayz glad you, the car and other motorists where all fine, the end off the day shit happens, just pray its not diahrea!

    a thing to keep in mind is the laws of traction, best described in the circle of traction. say its out of 100. if you lock your wheels, you have 100% of your available traction going to braking, that leaves 0 for turning, slam on your brakes in a empty lot doing a decent speed and try to turn, she wont till your wheels unlock. same for turning, if you take a sharp corner that exceeds the traction available. your car will free out at most likely the driving wheels and just slide and not turn. ff cars will under steer, fr cars will over steer. you can change the limits by having a wider contact patch, better suspension while keeping the scrub radius low as you do it. well thats my bit.. lol

    i didnt lock the tyres, so i still had some control there. i threw up on the side of the road after i got out i scared myself that much, lol dosent help i had a big lunch earlier, either.

    glad you okay, just to echo the comments re driver training, I have done two sessions in the last year, you never stop learning.

    I have had a few spin outs etc while racing, and while its a lot safer, normally its just cones.

    Its always good to get some practice and guidance on the high ways and in a safe environment.

    Good tyres are a must all the time, its the only contact with the road after all :D
