Hey, I just wanted to find out what the best engine oil would be for a 3SGE, in Australia.

I've read MANY different recommendations for climate, age, blah blah..
Everyone seems to have a preference..

    What is recommended by Toyota?
Would a different oil to the recommendation be better, given the age of the car now?

I have some Castrol GTX "modern engine" 10W30 - could this cause any issues?

The BGB recommends a multigrade oil with an API grade of at least SF so your Castrol GTX should be fine. The only issue you may come across with 10w-30 is if your engine has a lot of kms on it you may find it blows a bit of smoke as a thinner oil can get past worn rings and valve seals.

i changed mine with the seasons. 5w30 in the winter and 20w50 in the summer. summer here doesn't get as hot as in australia though, only up to 25c

my 3sge also seemed to like the castrol synthetic

I used to have castrol high milage 15W40 in my 3s-ge but in our country max temp is 30celcius in the summer.

I now use 10W40 valvoline high milage on my 3sgte.
