    wish me luck

    appointment at 4 today

gonna put high-octane and some of that octane booster shit in there and see how that works....looking at my last etest i failed miserable in the NO PPM but passed everything else.....

good luck!!! i would just use the high octane and skip the booster but what ever works lol

I thought octane boost only helped in turbos and diesel...could be wrong. but hope it passes. get that thing legal!

High octane will reduce Nox and increase Co and HC, retard the timing from 10 to 5 will decease about nox from about 2600 to 2000, anoteh rthing to play with, took me 8 tests : )

I need 0789 NO ppm to pass....it's last reading was 2963....first reading before a new cat was 3400.....

Do I probably just need an EGR valve?

good luck with that lol, I got mine down from 2600 to 300 with gas and timing changes.

if your CO and HC are pretty low to start with, like 1/2 or less of the limit, u can reduce the timing alot, HC are missfires, or unburn fuel, CO is incomplete combustion. to pass I restarted timing to 0 degrees, and ran 50/50 87 and 91 octaine. The HC jumped right to the limit, of 64, and the CO was about the same, NOx was uber low. When I retarted the timign to liek 3 degrees on 87 the HC and CO were very similar, affecting only the NOX greatly. Also, NOX = high compustion temps, so reducing timing will shorting the amout of burn and lower temps, EGR also has a big effect, hook the vacuum line from the cruise controll unit to the bottom of the egr, and unplug it from the manifold. idle the car and then appaly vacuum to the lien runign to the egr, it shoudl almost killt he engine, if it dosnt, the egr is pootched

    what happened?

Failed, same numbers as last year pretty much...the NOx went down a bit because of the high-octane gas I think....

I'm pretty sure my EGR is fucked at this point...it's rusted, and it's the only thing left on the car (minus fucked rings or something) that would affect emissions so drastically....

high nox is from excessive combustion temps (failed EGR, Excessive timing, combustion chamber deposits). Runnig Lean (o2 possibility, injectors ect.).

Do you test your egr yet? what were the numbers

No I haven't tested it yet...how do I when I don't have the cruise control attached anymore?

run a hose from there the cruse use to connect on the manifold to the bottom of the EGR where the current hose is connected ( switch them)

I found the Emission Guide software ($20) you can download from www.carleysoftware.com to be really helpful and simple to use, plus you can send email questions to the guy (or company - don't know) that owns/runs the site. I got a very detailed response w/in a day (or less) when I sent him all the numbers from my last three attempts to pass. Great site to check out w/ tons of articles and downloadable software (some free) on just about all aspect of car repair. That and the BGB, I think, are all anyone needs to trouble-shoot and make repairs. I'm a complete noobie to DIY auto stuff and I'm swapping a new engine in this weekend - first time ever.
