as the title says i dont want to assume anything so what do i want to lube these items with-

    cams
    oil pump gasket
    valve cover gasket
    oil pan gasket
    front main seal

and out of curiosity, do i have to remove the tranny mount to take the oil pan off?

for cams, just regular oil all around, even at the seal in the gear. same with the oil pan gasket, and front main seak, the valve cover gasket can be left alone, but some oil wouldnt hurt, as for the oil pump gasket u not sure, oil seal might even be good here too...

Well I never put anything on my gaskets but I may be wrong. For the oil pan gasket I do believe you have to use RTV sealant at certain spots and that wont stick to oil.

For cams and front seal their is a product called assembly lube which I think is just a really thick oil but it is the proper stuff.

Im guessing no you don't have to remove the tranny mount but thats about 8 years ago when I was playing with crankshaft bearings.

Regular motor oil is a bit thin and will run off the parts it is applied to. This stuff is much thicker because if your rebuilding an engine the first time you turn it over it will take a while for the oil pump to circulate oil through the engine. Assembly lube is not quit as thick as vaseline but its about as close as a liquid can get without being a grease. It will stay where needed until the oil circulates and disolves it.
