Oh I plan on it. The scales I have been using are on the way to the track. Our first race is the first weekend in April, so I might even get teh cage in before the first race.

Pix, no problem. I've fallen a little behind in keeping this thread up to date anyway. I'm using the cheap summit racing $55 plastic seats. That includes the cover. They are light and should work out great.

Now if only I had $1000 for some V710's :D

Another "do it yourself" weight saving project I want to do is to replace all the glass except the windshield with some clear plastic, maybe 1/8" thick. It should be easy using the stock glass as a mold and just carefully heating the plastic until it takes the shape of the stock glass. Some guys remove their glass, but we race in the rain and I dont want me or the inside of the car to get wet.

if you wanted to you could try cutting the hood apart somewhat. I removed all the bracing except the sections that run up and down the sides, then used a meter sick "glued" diagonally to stop the hood from bulging in, works great. A couple bolts to keep it down and thats it, weighs about 1/2 of stock, and you can remove all the stock clamping stuff if you want

I wonder how long it's gonna take for your meter stick to go up in flames lol

probably when the adhesive breaks and sends it into the manifold :p

I used a bottle of sumo glue (gurilla ect.) and once its set its pretty damn strong. Just for good measure I pilled a shit load on, so aslong as noone sits on my hood its good

    Here's some pix:

This is the front strut tower bar I made. It is aluminum, 3/8" thick, 1.5" wide and has rounded ends. It turned out really cool. I'll either polish it or painting it black whenever I get around to painting my rims:

Here's the seats I will be using. They have a snap on cover and padding:

    update: 2/20/08

I started getting ready to pull the motor and tranny out of the car for the LSD installation last night. So far I found a couple things to change to make engine removal easier in the future. I don’t want to remove the engine harness with the engine so there are a couple of spots I changed the routing of the harness. Having the motor out will also give me the chance to tape up the harness and heat wrap some of the exhaust pipe. Even today I still get wood looking under the hood of my car! 8)

I wander if I can fit the bolt-on TDR supercharger on the motor?

that seat must be so light!!! sure hope that snap on padding is decent, and that strut tower bar looks wicked really nice touch. TRD supercharger?? i think so lol but ya not so sure the stock hood would fit so well after that... but how cool would it look with a little cut out and a supercharger poking its nose out.

Actually the supercharger replaces the upper intake manifold, which is the part below the strut tower bar. I'll have to dig up a picture. It would clear the hood, but I'm wandering about the clearance at the firewall. Some of the MR2 guys use the supercharger when they swap in the V6, so it might work.

haha i guess im used to the V8 superchargers... so more on top of the engine where the intake is (living in texas for a bit will do that to you) that one def has a different profile then im used to seeing. either way though that would be awesome, how much power would it make (obviously depends on boost but lets say safe reliable power lol).

Calm down RYE! I'm having a hard time justifying the low amount of boost compared to the cost of the swap. It’s supposed to only give 5 lbs of boost because the motor is 10.75 to 1 compression and everyone complains that the knock sensors are defective from the factory, that I’m not sure if it is worth the investment. You can go first and let me know how it works out :D

I would if it was mine :D That's just a pic from someone selling one. If I had the money for a SC, I would spend it on tires.

I dropped off the tranny to get the diff installed yesterday. I’m so looking forward to trying it out! Hopefully it will be done by the end of the week. Our first race is the first weekend in April. Pulling the motor and tranny didn’t seem any more difficult (or easy) than pulling a 3S motor and tranny. At least putting it back in will be easy since all the mounts and other stuff is already set up.

I pulled the heater components out from under the dash, may it rest in pieces, and found a bunch more of the sound deadening insulation behind the insulation mating on the firewall. This is the kind that has a sheet metal covering spot welded over the top of it. So I’ll be removing that as well to lighten the car a little more.

i found 3 things that worked well to remove that stuff. dry ice, propane torch, and an impact hammer with a flat chisel. the flat chisel will tend to vibrate it off, i actually did that last night on my st184.

I fired up the motor last night. It was so easy to put in since it was in before.

I also picked up my roll cage from the shipping company yesterday and started setting that up. The shipping weight was 130 lbs, but that includes the wood pallet and some extra door bars they include, so I'm guessing the cage will add about 100 - 110 lbs to the car. I'm sure I took out more than that but just don't like the idea of adding weight to the car.
