flywheel interchange question. Looks like my dad is going to have to change the flywheel on his 88 camry....early 88 camry, with a 3S-FE. Now I have a couple flywheels from my 89 celica 3S-GE kicking around and I was wondering if they will interchange. Every time we call a wrecker they ask us how many bolts are holding the flywheel on (6 or 8) That is the only question they ask. Apparently between 87/88 they switched how many bolts hold the flywheel on thus making it different. So I really need to know what the difference is between the 3S-FE and the 3S-GE flywheel (aside from the fact that the teeth are different because of the starter and probably won't work) I already know I can't use my GE flywheel w/o some mods. The real question is are the flywheels different between the different year camrys? I'm going to have to go south to a wrecker to pull one and I need to know what month they changed the flywheel (if they did at all) and what years have the same one so I can pull the right one. I do not know if our camry has a 6 or 8 bolt flywheel, and I won't unless I crawl under there like a reptile and pull the plate off and count them
as far as im concerened all 3sfe's had a 6 bolt flywheel, and should interchange with other fe wheels. the ge started off as a 6 bolt but was later changed to an 8 bolt. camrys till 89 used the 3sfe, after till about 95 they used they used the 5sfe, 5 and 3s wont interchange due to balencing issues, same goes for a ge to fe, the wheels may fit, but there not balenced for that specfic engine. if there was any changes done, it would have been done in september, toyotas auto year ends then, so any mods made will occour after sept of the various years....
is the only difference the fact that the starter engages from the other side and so the teeth are different? Could one not just flip a ge one around a maybe space it.....oh wait I guess the clutch or torque converter has to mate to it doesnt it? haha nevermind
lol smooooth. . . . . lmao dont feel bad i knew a guy who wore his clutch to bear metal and dug up the flywheel, filled it in with a stick welder and tried to balence it with a grinder, that bitch went on to spin 2 bearings and throw a rod. . .
