this is basically a curiosity thread on what cams will go into what as an upgarde

as in i kno in the gen 1 GTE the gen 1 GE cams bolt in and are an upgrade

i also kno that 205 cams will go into a 185 engine. What other combos are there and what would be the best. as in if 205 cams go into a 185 wat about 3td gen GE cams and would they be even better etc etc.
I kno gains would depend on many other aspects of the engine and boost specs but like i said basically a thread of curiosity.

on the 205 to 185, you can only use the gen 3 exhaust cam in a gen 2 head. the gen 3 has 2 different cam journals. interestingly enough the gen 3 cams are the same spec as the gen 1 GE cams.

The big problem we face is the buckets

Gen1 buckets and shims are from a 4A-GE
Gen2-3 use larger FE style buckets and shims

What this means is that it is easy to swap cams but the extra lift on the later
cams will hit the sides of the buckets or knock the shims out

To run more lift you would need to have the head machined to take the larger buckets/shims

It's also possible to take the later cams and have the lobes ground down but not wise
considering the price of custom a/m cams

also gen 1 buckets are the same as 7mg
