Can't help you..... EDIT.... Yes Yes Yes I can :mrgreen ......... I need to do my pressure power steering hose and it's a PITA :aargh

Unfortunately this is a common problem with our ageing beasts........ Luckily for us Rick89GTS has given us a 'repair manual' in suspension/steering........ Thanx Rick :cheers2

I tried to seal it up while I look for a brake booster hahaha.. Im not an expert or anything, but Im pretty sure that could explain why the car doesn't really idle or accelerate correctly.. Maybe not sure exactly how they work..

probably doesn't idle well since there is a vacuum hose hooked up to the brake booster :p

hey? what you mean.. the hose that goes in the bottom there.. doesn't it run off the engine vac?

ok, mines basically the opposite. When I try to take off, the car sorta struggles for about a second and than takes off with all its power. Also there's a rattle noise while this happens and through gear changes just as your about to take your foot of the accelerator or while your going up a slight or steep incline.. Another problem for another day but.. bit off topic.. haha but yer strange..

I just looked it up in Chiltons, basically they just call it a hose.. hahah and Haynes calls it the hose leading from the engine to the brake booster.. Really strange what REV_HEAD was having though. Might be able to work it out from the hose diagram in the back?..

I just had a look at my booster and it's a vacuum hose........ I have only the one vacuum hose on top, like yours..... how did that hole get in the bottom of yours WTF, :shock

I know hey, im thinking maybe the P/steer hose might have rub against it or something? Sorta hard to work out because there basically no moving parts right there.. so yer WTF... haha

OK........ I think I'v solved it........That steel pipe you see in your pic is your high pressure power steering hose........ It's looks like it has rubbed a hole in your booster......... normally there is a thick rubber protective cover on the hose to stop this from happening......... it looks like you have moved the hose away slightly to patch it up YES/NO ?

Is the car running better since you patched it ?......... To fix that hole proper, I would use something like a steel putty, smooth it out, give it a lick of black paint and whalla.

Yer so basically everything that you said is completely correct. I actually cut out a top cap of a paint lid, and used the steel putty, however you can hear a hiss from the booster still, but I think the only way that I can get it to stop the air leak is to replace it with a working one with no holes..

That hissing is the vacuum leak......... Ok then........ try this........ remove all that and start again....... how big is the hole ?

If tiny then clean up around the hole and apply the steel putty directly over the hole. smooth it out and let it set and paint it..... done........ just trying to save you some cash.

It looks like there is a fairly new section of hose on top, your lucky, I have to replace mine...... PITA :aargh

Yer the hole is pretty big, more shaped in a largish crack.. 20-25mm in width and about 100mm long? I put the cap on to hopefully give that to rub on but yer that sorta came off straight away and yer basically its blown or sucked air to break the putty.. :/ I dont mind replacing the booster, the car is pretty much 22 years old, so it probably wont hurt... It's more of a temporary fix rather than a permanent one.. Sadly its my daily car as well which means it gets a lot of use backwards and forwards from work..
