i was driving along the highway and my current exhaust is real quiet so all i could hear was wind noise and stereo but as i slowed down and pulled off the highway, i noticed my exhaust sounded a little deeper but strange, so i played with the gears a bit and accelerated and broke a few times... then as i pulled into my driveway, the car stalled and was idling really rough and shitty! im just hoping thats somthing to do with back pressure and the fact that my exhaust now has a hole in it about 5x10cms.... but i highly doubt it !
the exhaust must have been rusty or had liquid sitting in it and its rusted the metal down to a thin layer, which then blew open the hole in it...

what could be wrong with the idle? why would it be rough and stall.... When i take my foot off the accelerator the revs drop and stalls the engine!!!

i unbolted the exhaust as i was gonna change my muffler over from my other celica, but i got a quick vid on my mobile of the exhaust without an end muffler (for those of you who wanted to know what your celica would sound like without a muffler lol)

(ps: i tried uploading this vid to photobucket but it didnt seem to work so i resorted to myspace hahaha as a LAST resort!)

Same thing happened to my red Celica, blew a huge whole in the muffler. That was before rego though. I thought of something just then too. The fuel pump is switched on by the air flow meter in these cars (safety feature, incase of accident and the engine dies the fuel pump cuts off so raw fuel isn't being sprayed everywhere) and when the idle drops low enough, the fuel pump will get switched off. The result is that the fuel pressure bleeds down, and the revs drop lower and lower and eventually the engine stalls. Have a listen down behind the centre console under the dash on the passenger side, you might hear a clicking noise when you press the accelerator and let it go at idle. This is the fuel pump relay.

wow that sounded just like my old gt...my guess when i solved my problem was indeed the back pres. with a hole in the muffler there is little or no back pres. thus the car stalled in idle or when i put the gas down... never did fix that......that poor gt
